A company called Zipline from Silicon Valley is working with the Governments of Rwanda and Tanzania to deliver blood and emergency medicines by drone. This cost effective and appropriate use of technology is now saving lives every day. Let your students learn how zipline are; delivering their service, creating high value jobs, saving lives, reducing infant mortality and increasing life expectancy.
This gives students a contemporary case study which they can relate to with technology that they are familiar with. This project gives the students the opportunity to understand the previous challenges of transporting blood projects across rural Rwanda across vast distances where there are no formal roads. They can also see how this had a direct effect on the death rate of women in child birth. Finally, students can discover the dramatic impact this simple but appropriate technology has had in reducing the death rate in Rwanda.
