Group/class reading opportunities throughout. Reading skills covered are analytical paragraphs of short extracts, and comparative writing. Some descriptive writing opportunities, and a range of transactional writing skills covered. End of unit assessment could be either analytical, comparative, or transactional writing. Final few lessons cover some speech writing.

There are points of self and peer assessment within the SOW. Teaching points of the sublime and uncanny literary concepts support most able to consider Gothic elements in 19th century texts at GCSE.
