Lesson looking at the two poems that featured in the May 2017 AQA exam ‘Autumn’ and ‘Today’.
Includes a planning sheet for students to plan their responses followed by exemplar responses to both questions.
20 questions to accompany a reading of the short story.
The first column are simple retrieval comprehension questions.
The second column are more analytical questions.
A grade 8 model response comparing how conflict with nature is presented in Prelude and Storm on the Island.
I’d give it a mark at the top of Band 5 24/30 which I predict is around grade 8.
It is well-structured, thoughtful, detailed and developed with apt evidence.
To reach Grade 9 it needs to be more critical and exploratory with more convincing exploration of alternative interpretations and contectual factors.
I have many other Power and Conflict resources also on my shop such as the following:

This free resources contains a walk-through of an AQA English Language Paper 1 extract using the Mr Fisher extract. I have managed to fit the extract and the questions onto one sheet of A4 to save on printing costs.
The writing frames are aimed at students targeting a grade 4/5.
However, I have also included the aspirational AQA sample model responses at a higher level in case they are useful.
Also contains a walkthrough for the Paper 2 2019 exam about elephants.
One page cloze plot summary of An Inspector Calls. Also includes an answer sheet.

A useful starter activity to help remember Scrooge quotations. With the closed book examination in mind, these work well as little and often starters to help students memorise quotations.
Ideal as a cover worksheet, this worksheet gets students to choose from a range of learning journey tasks to help them compare how a parallel universe is presented in two popular fiction extracts from Hunger Games and The Wizard of Oz.
Quick starter on poetic devices.
Tough: Find the words in the wordsearch.
Tougher: Define the terms.
Toughest: Discuss the impact the features can have.
Brief PowerPoint with annotations for Act 2 Scene 4 and a model analytical paragraph for explaining the importance of this often overlooked scene.
Also includes a test on ten quotations from Act 1 and Act 2.
