Design Technology Research and Design Project: Sandwich Boxes

(0)
A four-lesson unit (although lesson 3 where the children create their boxes took two lessons!) to research, design, create and evaluate their sandwich boxes. The final box design itself is as the resource file picture shows, not triangular, but contains photographic steps for the children to follow. I used this lesson unit with a mixed Year 3/4 class (who got very into it), but have made these boxes with Year 5 before as well. This unit does not include actually making the sandwiches, but that could be included also. Thanks for looking! Zoo Discussion Text Lesson and Planning Frame

Zoo Discussion Text Lesson and Planning Frame

A very detailed planning frame for a discussion text on zoos. I used this to discuss ideas as a whole class and then gave to my lower ability children to help them choose sentences for their final piece. I used this for a Y4 class but I think it could be used for older children also. Differentiated plan for the lesson also included with objectives from the Year 4 English curriculum 2014. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

4 Resources
An 18-lesson unit of work (including two lessons to watch the film) on The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by CS Lewis. My Year 4 class absolutely loved reading this book and I think these resources could be easily adapted for any KS2 class. Thanks for looking! Ancient Greeks Non-Fiction Revision

4 Resources
These are the resources I used at the end of the year in my Topic lessons to revise non-fiction text types before the tests. Make sure the persuasion text lesson is taught before the recount lesson. If looking for inspiration, for discussion texts I asked the children to write about whether it was better to grow up in Athens or Sparta, but I used a resource by someone else. Thanks for looking! Instruction Writing to make a Card or Paper Box (DT links)

This lesson requires the children to put photographs in order of the instructions, and then write the instruction that they think goes with the picture together as a class. The children make the box based on the pictures and then write their own instructions based on what they have made. As a plenary, the class can textmark the features from an example given. Instruction Text Writing: Olympic Torch

This powerpoint guides children through writing their own instructions. First, there is a list of features, then the class use these features to text mark the example (How to make a paper plate mask). Children are then given a few minutes to make their own Olympic torches before they write instructions for them. The lesson concludes with text-marking an example. Thanks for looking! Children think about whether they would rather wear uniform or their home clothes to school in this lesson. After thinking of reasons for each side of the argument the Powerpoint guides the children through writing a discussion text on the subject. Planning using objectives from the Year 4 English Curriculum included. Thanks for looking! Symmetry - Differentiated Patterns

I used these worksheets in Year 4 and the children moved through them at their own pace during the lesson starting with the first sheet. The third activity is quite difficult (two examples in the picture) so even the most able might need to start with the second sheet first. The last sheet is just blank for the children to fill in for each other in pairs if they've blasted through the other three! Thanks for looking! Non-Chronological Report Writing Dressed for the Weather

(0)
I used this lesson for a Year 3 class on non-chronological report writing. The children used subheadings for their paragraphs on contrasting weather environments and what would be appropriate to wear in each. This lesson worked really well because they did not need to do any further research before writing, which meant that we could focus on the features of a non-chronological report. Thanks for looking! Predict the next shape in a pattern- trains theme

This is a lesson for Early Years predicting the next shape in a pattern, it could also be useful for a lower ability Year 1 class or for introducing a new topic. The children have to spot the next shape to appear in the pattern and show which shape they think will come next. Thanks for looking! Using penguin's flippers and crab's pincers, this powerpoint takes children through their times tables. I used this with a Year 3 class, but is easily adaptable. (You will need dice, I used giant dice) Thanks for looking! Please have a peak at my other items for sale in my TES shop :) https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/HanMade

George's Marvellous Medicine- Differentiated Worksheets

This resource was used with my Year 2 class for them to describe the effects of their own magical medicine. I've included a loose plan so that the worksheets make more sense. The worksheet has been differentiated three ways. Thanks for looking! Please have a peak at my other items for sale in my TES shop :) https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/HanMade

Place Value (Hundreds Tens and Ones)

Using the acronym 'Hold Them Open' for Hundreds, Tens and Ones, this powerpoint encourages the children (using their fingers) to count the number of hundreds, tens and ones in each three digit number as the slides partition the numbers. Persuasive letter writing: Dear Headteacher, Save our playtimes

(0)
This powerpoint guides the children to write a persuasive letter to the headteacher to save their playtime. The powerpoint starts with a nasty letter to the headteacher trying to argue for shorter breaks. The children must discuss how they will put their side of the argument across for playtimes being essential. Includes features of persuasion and provides a simple structure for writing which can be displayed on the board. The plenary slide includes a sample letter to check for features and suggest improvements. Now also includes planning. I used this with a Year 4 class (some were very concerned that their playtimes might actually be taken away!) Thanks for looking! Silly Storytelling Game for Storytelling Week

This is the classic storytelling game of fill-in-the-blanks, fold it down and pass it on. I have included some instructions in case it is unfamiliar to you. I think it would be most appropriate for Y1-4, but my Year 4s found it hilarious. Thanks for looking! Sound - Measuring pitch and making instruments

Two worksheets for Year 4 Science lessons on Sound. The first is after children had made their own junk model instruments (mostly tissue box guitars and yoghurt pot rice shakers). The second is for much further along in the unit on pitch and frequency, and what different animals can hear. Thanks for looking!
