I have worked in both KS2 and KS1 as class teacher and am also English Leader in KS1. For the last 5 years, I have been teaching in Y2, which gave me plenty of ‘SATs experience’. However, I have been trying to ensure that the skills children need to apply in their SATs are linked to everyday life experiences and have applied them as much as I could to our topics, in order to avoid 'teaching to the test'. I really value your feedback on my resources. Happy browsing!

COMPREHENSION
This is a brilliant comprehension to use in English when talking about harvest as it links to RE. I would recommend it for year 2 and up. It is based on the song Cauliflowers Fluffy which you can find here on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRQEQgyGAGA
Here are four differentiated sheets with the lyrics of the songs and questions underneath.
Extended level: Retrieval and higher order thinking questions (Why, What does it mean..., Which word tells you that...)
Core: Focused more on simple retrieval from the text.
Lower Core: Simple retrieval from the text but scaffolded multiple choice for half of the questions.
Nurture, SEN, EAL: Using the song and text children read for mening and find colour and adjective used to describe the fruit/veg and draw the harvest basket.
BAR CHARTS
These differentiated maths sheets are about on bar charts: Children read the table of how many children like which fruit and make a bar chart of it plus they answer questions about it. It is differentiated into bar charts that go up in 1s, 2s and 5s. It is further differentiated for each (1s, 2s or 5s) - one is more scaffolded and the bar chart has been prepared, the other needs children to label their own bar chart.
Furthermore the same activity again but with a blank table for children to investigate in their own class and create a car chart from there.
ADDING SEVERAL NUMBERS
Here are 6 differentiated worksheets (2 pages each) that I made for my class to relate maths learning to Harvest.
On each sheet, the letters of the alphabet are printed at the top and each letter has a value. Children then have to work out the total of several harvest words printed on the sheet.
1. There are three sheets designed for applying mental strategies to work out name scores:
-WALT add using mental strategies: Adding single-digit numbers using basic number bonds.
- WALT add using mental strategies: Adding several multiples of 10.
- WALT add using mental strategies: Adding several multiples of 100.
2. There are three more differentiated sheets, where children can apply the column method or a calculator for addition to work out the score of each name:
- WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 30).
- WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 50).
- WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 100).
The children then work out their own word's score and compare them to the other words :) Can easily be edited for your own classes.
A geography worksheet for mapping countries in Europe that take part. Children can choose 12 countries, find them on the map and make a key. If you wanted to differentiate it, you could print it out twice and fill in the key for one already. I would recommend copying the map on A3 paper to make it easier for children.
I also added a two pages long information sheet with facts about the past, this year's games and the mascot. This could be used for research (individually or whole class) when making posters/leaflets etc. or to get the kids 'hooked...

This is only one resource. I also sell a pack of 6 UEFA resources (this one included) for £3.99 - search for 'UEFA EURO 2016 France Activities' by JennyGodfrey. THANK YOU.
I made this resource for my year 2 class.
There are differentiated worksheets/challenges designed to use when learning about and =.
You can either teach the whole class and just use the sheet ot do the following: I designed it so that the WAGD group can teach themselves while you teach the rest of the class about the signs. The WAGD group reads the first few sheets and does the started activity independently. When you send the rest of the class to work on the activity you can check in on the WAGD group and move them on to further challenges included.
Differentiated for SEN as well - cutting an sticking crocodile signs.
WAGD - working at greater depth
E - exepcted
WT - working towards expected
BYG - below year group
SEN - special educational need
Please see the 3 pictures in preview for more detailed preview :)
This is a great resource for children to use for maths when we celebrate the Royal Wedding 2018. The teacher simply needs to add the prices depending on the year group’s needs (and differentiate it for different groups) and then children work on word problems (mostly multiplication) about party planning with Royal Wedding Merchandise…
There are also two group tasks if you would like a more open ended activity; one where children decide what to buy for how many people and find the total and one where children plan on a budget that you set and have to figure out what they can get for the amount they have. AGain the teacher will have to add prices.
I hope that works - feedback very welcome, have already acted upon feedback and improved the resource.
I also included a powerpoint about Buckingham Palace - interior and exterior - to show children what it looks like and to get an idea of Royal life. There is a pictures of the castle and a very quick one slided introduction to problem-solving - again prices written on there but can be adjusted.
Attached as word doc and pdf.

I always have a vote on the last day of term to elect the hardest worker, kindest person, funniest person and more... and each child is allowed to vote for who they think the award should go to and they can write down the 3 people that fit best into each category. They love it! I print/write the class name and date on there, sign it, laminate the certificates and set them up at the front of the classroom when they come in on their last day. I also buy the cheap plastic trophies from Sainsbury's, and stick the attached little labels on them before they go out.
I also make a year book with them a week before we break up, which I get them to fill in and then copy for the whole class. It's a lot of fun and a nice keepsake for them and their parents. Enjoy!
Both files are attached as word documents that can be edited and as PDFs.
This resource was made with year 2 in mind but is really suitable for infants and lower juniors. It consists of four parts:
INFORMATION BOOK
Children can do their own research using this 16 page long information book that I created about Brazil. It is attached in two formats: pdf and word doc so it can be edited. The contents of the book are as follows:
1. Country
- Where is it?
- What is the land like?
- Rivers and Waterfalls
- Cities
- Weather
2. Sports
- Football
- Formula 1
- Volleyball
- Pele
3. Olympic Games Rio 2016
- Olympic Games
- Paralympic Games
4. Carnival
5. The Rainforest
- What is the Rainforest
- What do we get from the Rainforest?
- Sad Fact!
- What are the layers of the Rainforest?
6. Glossary
COMPREHENSION
SATs style comprehension based on the information book. It is differentiated for WT (Working towards), E (expected) and WAGD (Working at greater depth).
BOARD GAME
A board game where children can play in partners. It helps them recall facts learnt from the booklet about Brazil eg about the rainforest, weather, Olympics etc.
POSTER ACTIVITY
Children work in groups of three and create a poster about Brazil using the information book as starting point. They have the attached sheet as their success criteria which reinforces what needs to go on a poster (heading, sub-heading, facts, pictures, etc). They work together as team (criteria for that on sheet as well) and present the information using their neatest presentation skills. Can be differentiated by giving different children different roles eg scribe, researcher, illustrator...
Teacher can then go around and in good old competition style give children stickers/points for each bit of the success criteria they have met. Winning team is the team that has the most stichers/points. I gave out stickers/points for each sub-heading and paragraph of information. My class loved it. Took them all morning and they were so engaged they wouldn't even want to go out for play! :)
This is quite a fun activity for English lessons or Guided Reading lessons where children have to come up with a caption for a picture and then draw a picture for a given caption using inference skills and thinking about what might have happened. There are 14 worksheets and my class really loved it as well as a notebook to introduce the activity.
Here are 6 differentiated worksheets (2 pages each) that I made for my class to relate maths learning to the UEFA Euro '16 in France.
On each sheet, the letters of the alphabet are printed at the top and each letter has a value. Children then have to work out the total of several names printed on the sheet. The names are those of top Euro '16 footballers with pictures.

- WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 50).
- WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 100).
The children then work out their own names' scores and compare them to the footballers :)
Attached as word (editable) and PDF.

Apostrophes for Contraction:
Differentiated 3 ways -
Top group has to find words where apostrophes have to be added and re-write sentences using apostrophes in the correct places.
Middle Group has to change underlined words to words with apostrophes.
Bottom group has to match contradicted form to the two words it is made of and work on a few sentences as challenge.
Comprehension. Differentiated 4 ways -
Higher order thinking questions. To go with a printout of the story that YOU have e.g. book, twinkle etc. Text not included just questions.
Retrieval questions
Multiple choice questions
Colouring in Cinderella comprehension with challenge question and sentence to unscramble.
For the top two, part of the sentence is in bold which they have to use as sentence starter for their answer to encourage them to answer in full sentences.
VERY BASIC SLIDE ON NOTEBOOK TO INTRODUCE
Speech/Thought bubble activity
Children work in mixed ability on these four scenarios again to fill in thought and speech bubbles. Could be acted out in partners too. Not differentiated.
Up-leveling
Short activity - improving 6 sentences. Differentiated by outcome - children follow the steps to the step they can get to.
Correcting mistakes
Children proofread sentences where is/are and him/her are not correct and edit them. For children who cannot access this there is a second activity about unscrambling sentences about Cinderella.
Sequencing Pictures Activity
Not differentiated. Children can cut and stick pictures in the correct order and label/annotate/write sentences.Great for EAL.
Grammatically correct sentences.
This activity is based on a Pie Corbett game. You start with challenge 1 and make a sentence with just one word. Then move on to challenge 2 and add a second word, so now you have to use both words in a sentence. Then you add a third, non-related word and children have to come up with a grammatically correct sentence and use their imagination to add write a new sentence this time using all three words.
Identifying speech and adding speech marks.
In a small group or in partners children read following Cinderella text. They work out together which bits are spoken by the characters, then underline what is spoken. Next they re-write in their book and put the spoken sentence which they underlined inside speech marks “_____”.
BAR CHARTS
These differentiated maths sheets are about on bar charts: Children read the table of how many treats children got from trick or treating and make a bar chart of it plus they answer questions about it. It is differentiated into bar charts that go up in 1s, 2s and 5s. It is further differentiated for each (1s, 2s or 5s) - one is more scaffolded and the bar chart has been prepared, the other needs children to label their own bar chart.
Furthermore the same activity again but with a blank table for children to investigate trick or treating in their own class and create a car chart from there.
ADDING SEVERAL NUMBERS
Here are 6 differentiated worksheets (2 pages each) that I made for my class to relate maths learning to Halloweend.
On each sheet, the letters of the alphabet are printed at the top and each letter has a value. Children then have to work out the total of several Halloween words printed on the sheet.
1. There are three sheets designed for applying mental strategies to work out name scores:
-WALT add using mental strategies: Adding single-digit numbers using basic number bonds.

- WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 50).
- WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 100).
The children then work out their own word's score and compare them to the other words :) Can easily be edited for your own classes.
I created this differentiated worksheet for my year 2 class when we analysed and interpreted data.
Questions include simple retrieval such as How many people like? What is the most/least popular item as well as adding up totals (How many people like ... and ...?) and finding the difference questions such as How many more people liked ... than ...
Each group has 2 or 3 sheets.
It is differentiated for the lowest group as well and includes a mastery style question for the high ability.
Worksheet codes:
BYG-Below year group
WT-working towards
E-expected
WAGD-working at greater depth
I made these sheets for my year 2 class to work on in mixed ability pairs.
I think it would work with year 3 and 4 and possibly with high level year 1 children as well.
Please note they are not differentiated!
It worked very well though, I got them talking together in groups of 2.
The skills practised are the following:
- Question words: (sheets for two sessions)
Thinking carefully about what kind of answer the question word asks for. It is done in two parts - one where they have to read a question and discuss what kind of thing they are looking for in the answer eg a place, a person etc. The second part has questions and possible answers, all multiple choice. There is no text but children have to work out from the question word which answer is correct by identifying if the question asks for a time, place, reason etc.
- Inference:
Looking at the clues in the text and using them to make sense of what happened
- Language: (sheets for two sessions)
Thinking about language choices, understanding words, picking out synonyms etc.
Originally designed for lower primary (Year 1-3), this resource is a great way to get children to think about what they want to do in the holidays. They have 9 sentence starters eg On a rainy day I want to… On a hot day I want to … To keep learning I want to… and they have to make their own bucket list for the holidays. It could be adapted for higher year groups.
Also a little pattern puzzle activity whereby each child gets to design a tile and it can be put together as a class piece of art work.
This comprehension is all about Valentine's Day. It is not differentiated this time but three pages long with 13 questions which could be answered in mixed ability partners. It is NOT based on an information text but rather on three text message exchanges of which there are mobile phone screenshots on there.
1) One between mummy and child wishing Happy Valentine's and saying I love you and the child thanking mummy for all she does. The questions are some retrieval and some higher order thinking questions.
2) One exchange between two best friends, one of them saying she feels lonely and depressed for not having a Valentine. The other friend cheers her up saying it's about having loving people and they swear by 'best friends forever'.
We again have some retrieval question and some higher level thinking questions. There i also one about the convention of putting 'xxx' at the end of messages.
3. A message exchange between husband and wife wishing each other happy Valentine's. Husband says he has a surprise, the wife should have a vase at the ready and not eat too much during the day so she is hungry tonight. Children have to use inference to work out what the surprise is and there is a language based question as well.
So the whole comprehension covers a lot of skill, hence it is thought for mixed ability pairs - recommended for KS2.
Comprehension included as PDF and Word, plus pictures of the text message exchanges.
I use this with all three of my SEN children. On a monday morning they come to school and it's on their desk. They then choose reward/treat for Friday afternoon that they will get if they have mostly ticked all sessions on the timetable for the week. It works really well and can easily be adjusted. Their 1:1 are very good at helping them reflect about their work.
I created this for my KS1 team as displays for their classrooms. It explains all terminology that children (and teachers) need to be able to know and use in English in year 1 and year 2 according to the New Curriculum in child speak. Hope you find it useful.
