This five-page landscape document can be blown up to A3 to provide an excellent revision resource for Key Stage 5 students. All 35 scenes of Peter Shaffer’s two-act play are outlined and summarised, including key quotations. There is space for notes on either characterisation or directorial concept/design. The resource should save you (or your students) about five hours of work.

Exploring sexual politics in Margaret Atwood’s novel and critically evaluating the treatment of the theme This Powerpoint presentation asks a series of questions related to the theme of feminism and sexual politics to get students thinking more critically about the text. It would be suitable for use over the course one or two lessons. The presentation highlights key quotations and focuses analysis on key episodes and sub-themes. There are sample assessment questions to be used at the end of the session/s.

This basic 7-week scheme of work is designed for busy teachers hoping to read ‘The Ice Monster’ with their Key Stage 2 or 3 class. There are weekly spelling labels for higher ability pupils. The Powerpoint provides a starting point for class discussions and activities. ‘The Ice Monster’ is set in Victorian Britain and would therefore sit well alongside KS2 topic work on the Victorians.

Aimed at higher ability Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils, this scheme of work and accompanying Powerpoint presentation are intended to provide a framework for using Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Flamingo Boy’ as a class reader. Also included are ten sets of high ability spelling labels, one for each week of the unit, and a shortened version of ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’ by Jules Verne which is used in a summarising task. The resource is not intended to be exhaustive, leaving you room to customize as you see fit. Hopefully it will save you around ten hours of work if you do decide to choose ‘Flamingo Boy’ as your class reader. With themes such as autism, World War Two and travel, it is a truly captivating read with much to explore for an able group. This Powerpoint can be printed off and used as a basic devising log for a mixed ability BTEC class following the Urban Fairy Tales suggested brief for Unit 2: Preparation, Performance and Production. I have also included the beginning of our script, ‘Mandem in Wonderland’ which can be adapted by the students or used as a writing stimulus, as well as a scene overview including Bulgarian translation (made using Google Translate!). If each scene is improvised and refined, the running time should be about 30 minutes in total (2-3 minutes per scene). There is also an evaluation sheet for the final production.

This lesson provides you with the basic components for a jigsaw task on Drama Skills. It's split into four sections: - Movement - Vocal (Techniques) - Characterisation - Improvisation You will need to make labels with the above terms on them, according to the number of "experts" you have in your class in each subject area. Each pupil in the expert group will complete a lesson plan (provided) and then be put into a teaching group where they represent the expert group and teach their new group all that they know. There is a discussion-based plenary which you can jazz up at your leisure.

Based on the first 20 minutes or so of the film, these questions will help to focus your Key Stage 3 pupils on the film of Private Peaceful. I recommend using the English subtitles on the film even for higher ability pupils. Pupils can answer on the sheet or in their exercise books using whole sentences. This could also be a useful homework task towards the end of the term/half-term.
