Reading records are a good way to assess how much reading a child has done. This can be either at home, school or in reading groups. However, its not just about a child reading for a certain amount of minutes, it’s also about their understanding (comprehension) of what they have read.
Some students find it very easy to skim read or are able to decode words with ease but when it comes to the actual understanding of the text or book they have read it can sometimes seem as if they haven’t read it at all. That is not the case its just their comprehension.
This reading record sheet aims to help you to help them by knowing if they understand what they have read.
What’s on the reading record sheet?
There are 7 sections (1 week of reading)
Each day has a different comprehension question (some are easier than others)

We’ve all heard it ‘Miss? Miss? I don’t know what to write about!’ Well, these prompt cards are perfect. Simply cut them out, laminate and throw in a jar. When ever a student comes to you and say ‘I don’t know what to write about’ have them go to a jar or where ever you choose to store them and have your students pick one out. Close their eyes and pick one. That is always fun and whatever the student picks, that’s what they write about.
What’s included
48 cards - 8 to a letter size page
8 - 1 letter size page with 8 blank cards on, this is for you or your students to add their own.

This book review template is not just about summarising and re-writing. First the comprehension of the book your kiddos have read is grasped. Once sheet one is completed and has been checked by the teacher they can move on to creating their book review booklet.
Comprehension page
The comprehension page ask your students to summarise key parts. I recommend asking them to use bullet points as this will be easier to go back and double check.
Review Booklet
The booklet review will print on letter size paper and fold into four. Once the parts have been filled out your kiddos can decorate the cover and other parts by coloring sections in.
Please note: Watermarks/blurred images will not be in your downloaded file! All files are PDF unless stated otherwise.
