A creative maths lesson for the Christmas period! Included is a worksheet with differentiated tasks for the children to choose from, based around the idea of designing some Christmas wrapping paper using their maths skills. Encourage children to choose skills they need to develop and the most able might choose more than one criteria for their designs. A fun and absorbing task. Introduce by looking for mathematical elements in real or online examples.

A set of spelling lists for the school year which I have used with Year 6. It is a mixture of statutory lists and vocabulary/spelling rules which I have found useful at this age in mixed ability prep school classes. Lists are each 25 words long, with children learning the first 15 or 20 or the full list, depending on ability. I hope it is useful, perhaps to someone working in a school that isn’t using a scheme. 20 home learning ideas for the summer break. Tasks are varied, including: writing, math, creative and social-emotional skills. Provide as a handout for children to select from. Why not challenge children to complete 3, 4 or 5 of their choosing? Some tasks could be useful for new term display or presentation.
