Lively whole-group multi-skill language learning games, ideal for Primary French Immersion / Elementary French and Beginner French students. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practicing, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell time in French, and for pronunciation practice too.
There are 8 clock faces per page, and I cut the cards in sets of 2, so four larger cards per page. This means that students can see two clock faces and times per game card, which really helps to consolidate learning. It’s also a lot less prep than cutting out eight individual cards, though I do actually have a set like this, which we use as a larger-size dominoes game.
I always laminate my language learning cards - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the relevant order. Students will generally have several cards each, depending on the size of your class. We usually set the cards on a table, so that students can see the timeline clearly. I frequently use a timer when we play. Playing in teams, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges together, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. The games also work well as pair or small-group games.

This European Day of Languages quiz focuses on a range of topics and themes about Europe. Students can broaden and develop their knowledge of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The quizzes work well as a whole-group team quiz, and are also perfect for pair or small-group activities.
The quizzes are for older students, who have a more developed understanding, knowledge and awareness of the world. Some responses will be generally well-known to students, others less so, as the questions range from basic general knowledge to more specialized factual knowledge. This ensures that the activity is equally about reflecting on what students know, as it is about what they can learn. In this way, the quizzes aim not only to consolidate existing knowledge, but also to enable students to learn more about Europe. The questions and answers also provide a comprehensive framework for further exploration of Europe, which both broadens and enriches the learning experience.
I generally give students multiple opportunities over the school year to play the quizzes, not just on or around the European Day of Languages. Before we play, I always screen a clear map of Europe, to ensure that students can visualize it in its entirety, the location of individual countries within it, and in relation to each other. This provides an important learning context for students. The quiz opens with general questions about Europe, and then moves on to questions about a range of individual European countries.
There are 80 questions across two challenges:
Challenge 1: 56 multiple-choice questions, with four response options to choose from. The correct response is in capital letters.
Challenge 2: 24 questions in TRUE / FALSE format. Where the answer is false, students should additionally give the correct response. Some of these questions align with the topics / themes in Challenge 1, but some address entirely different ones. I usually work with this challenge after Challenge 1, as I’ve found that it maximises opportunity for learning.
The questions address and topics such as: music and the Arts; daily life; famous figures; geography; history; landmarks; language and linguistics; literature; politics; science; social history; society
Laminate the cards if you can - they are easier to manipulate, and remain in excellent condition for years.

Ideal for cross-curricular learning in Spanish class: students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe through classroom decor, really making the most of learning display. There are 134 portrait posters (A4, 8.5 x 11) in Spanish showing European countries, capital cities and flags, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of European geography. At the same time, they are developing their Spanish language skills: speaking, listening and reading in particular, as well as broadening their Spanish vocabulary.
We regularly ask questions during Talk Time, such as ***¿Cuál es la capital de…?***, or ¿Sí o no? Barcelona es la capital de España? - I’ve found this to be a really effective way of promoting speaking in Spanish class, as students tend to find this a really challenging skill, particularly at the beginning of their Spanish learning program.
There are several countries, for example Armenia, that are often classed as belonging either to Europe or to Asia. There are also two posters for some countries, such as France, officially known as República Francesa - you can choose either that, or the more frequently-used Francia to display.
Laminate the posters if you can - they display more effectively, and will remain in excellent condition for years, especially if you use them as flashcards to introduce Europe in Spanish class. There are two formats to choose from - Europe map, or plain without frame to keep prep costs to a minimum.

This kind of classroom display provides a real learning opportunity during September, in the run-up to, and on the European Day of Languages. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters help students develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Europe. It’s useful to show students a clear map of Europe, so that they can visualise the location of each country and capital city, not only as an individual location with ***Europ***e, but also as a location in relation to other European countries and capital cities.
There is a range of islands, such as the Faroe Islands, and also some countries, for example Armenia, that are often classed as belonging either to Europe or to Asia. Some countries have two posters, such as Greece, officially known as the Hellenic Republic - you can choose either the more frequently-used Greece or the Hellenic Republic to display.

I like to share essential beginner French vocabulary that I can use in everyday talk with my young learners from the beginning of their French learning program. The key focus is on the definite article, both masculine and feminine, singular and plural, though I do use the set to start to compare these with the indefinite article, which I’ve found to be a really successful way of helping students embed grammatical concepts such as gender, implicitly, without the need for repeated explicit instruction.

The differentiated questions have a multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words and more complex sentences in French.
Set 1 - fruits : Set 2 - vegetables : Set 3 - fruits & vegetables
The questions are all in French, and range in complexity and challenge. There are 35 fruits and 37 vegetables addressed across the sets, masculine and feminine, definite, indefinite and partitive article, and singular and plural. This really helps students familiarize themselves with grammatical concepts without explicit instruction.
There are some translation questions too - both from French to English and English to French, which is a great introduction to translation for beginner learners. I explain that there are several possible correct alternatives, as translation is not a word-for-word activity, which is definitely useful for them to know from the very beginning of their learning.

French-speaking countries, capital cities and flags game cards provide great cross-curricular learning opportunities for any appropriate age group, at any time of the school year. Students can develop their language skills, as well as their knowledge of both the French-speaking and wider world, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher.
The set features 41 countries / territories where French is an official language, with each picture card showing the continent and national flag, and the corresponding text card detailing continent, country and capital city. There is a set of detachable continent, country and capital city labels. Labelling is a really successful and popular learning activity.
There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the games help them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Les pays francophones. I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too.
There is a country, capital city and flag reference list of all countries and capital cities, including the continent on which each is located. Students find it useful to read this through before playing I generally allow them only 60 seconds on a timer to really focus their reading and increase the sense of competition if we are playing competitive team games. I’ve described a range of popular games and activities in the product pack.
The list can also be used as a year-round reference resource, which students can file in their workbooks or learning files. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - enabling learners to engage with the target vocabulary, but also aligning with cross-curricular learning - working on reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and Spanish language skills in general.
Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. As they move through the grids, their language skills are challenged in a range of ways - from straightforward vocabulary searching, to gap-fill, scrambled letters and more complex questions, which feature mathematical language in Spanish.
There is a single word search per page, with corresponding answer key, portrait format. There are two formats to choose from - the search grids and answer keys as separate worksheets, and also a file with both grids and answer keys together, so that you can print each grid and key double-sided, according to which suits your classroom needs better.

I often ask ‘quick questions’ such as ***¿Cuál es la capital de…?***, or ¿Sí o no? Madrid es la capital de Paraguay? - there are lots of questioning and speaking opportunities, using the word wall as visual prompts. Speaking does tend to be quite a challenging skill, particularly for beginner learners, so getting the most from classroom decor to encourage students to speak is really important - they’re a great tool for encouraging students to speak, and to construct sentences, from the very beginning of their Spanish learning. I’ve also found that there can be several countries that students don’t actually know, or have never heard of, so the word wall is really useful for helping them develop their general understanding and knowledge of both the Spanish-speaking and wider world.
There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format. The flag and text are big enough for students to be able to see and read from various locations in the classroom. There are two design formats to choose from - Spanish flag, or plain, which keeps prep costs to a minimum.

An instant introduction to the scope of the Francophone world, promoting French as a living language, spoken widely across the world, and featuring in the everyday life of the learning environment. There are 41 countries / territories where French is an official language. Each flashcard / poster shows the continent, country and capital city in French, and its national flag.
There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the word wall definitely helps them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Les pays francophones - students are often genuinely amazed at the scope of the French-speaking world. I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too. I use the posters to get students talking in French class too during Talk Time for example - quick questions such as Vrai ou faux ? Québec est la capitale du Canada ? or Libreville est la capitale de quel pays ? are really useful to encouraging students to speak in French.
The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or plain, which really saves on prep expense. I always print on card stock and / or laminate my flashcards / posters, as they display much more effectively, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and remain in excellent condition for years.

A great way of getting your students talking without feeling ‘on the spot’, or worried about not getting their pronunciation and accent right in front of the whole class. The Q&A prompt cards offer structured talk opportunities, and focus on vocabulary, structures and general knowledge that they are likely to meet in both the beginning and more intermediate stages of their English learning.
My students apply their developing English knowledge creatively and practically by crafting their own questions and answers, using the prompts as speaking frames. With focused and frequent practice, they begin to feel more confident about their language skills, using the Notes and Next Steps pages in the reference book to jot down their ideas. We also use the pages to note how they think their skills are developing, and how well they are beginning to understand fully both the range of vocabulary and grammatical concepts.
The language in this set is ideal for advanced beginner English students moving into intermediate English, and feature a range of differentiated questions and answers, addressing various aspects of English, such as f***forming questions, the use of the present and present continuous tenses, word order*** and so on. This is really important for language learners, who often attempt to impose the grammar and structures of their first language onto the new language they are learning. There’s definitely a cultural and general information flavor to many of the questions, such as What is the London Eye? and How many countries are there in the United Kingdom?

These Spanish animals display posters / flashcards create a fabulous Spanish look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote Spanish as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of Spanish. They introduce learners to a range of animals in Spanish from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarise themselves with how Spanish words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form.
My younger Spanish students really love the animals posters / flashcards, and like to compare the Spanish and English words. I’ve found that they also help very young children develop their growing understanding of the animal kingdom. We don’t necessarily learn all the animals, but we do use them for pronunciation and speaking practice, and for memory and recall games too.
Students definitely notice the different words for a/an, and ask why some animals are un, and others are una. I’ve used this as a useful prompt to introduce the concept of gender.
There are 20 animals using the masculine and feminine indefinite article, which again is a great opportunity to begin to compare Spanish to English. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as orso and lobo. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from their first language, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, which I’ve found to be really useful for both current and later learning.
The animals are:
a bear : a bee : a bird : a butterfly : a cat : a dog : a fish : a fox : a frog : a horse : a kangaroo : a monkey : a mouse : an owl : a parrot : a rabbit : a spider : a squirrel : a turtle / tortoise : a wolf
Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. I have, who has? is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practicing, reinforcing and refreshing a range of animals in Spanish. The game is ideal for language learning, with a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice - I point out particular phonemes, sounds and accents too - such as the tilde on the letter ñ, and how important that is in creating the correct sound of the word.
The aim of the game is to create a Spanish sentence chain as quickly as possible, starting with Tengo la primera tarjeta, and ending with the final card, Tengo la última tarjeta. The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for beginner language learners who are beginning to familiarise themselves with the written word, and starting to link spelling with sound. Try to print in color if you can - it adds to the visual appeal of the game, which is a real motivator for learning.
There are 25 animals featured in the game:

There is implicit input on grammatical concepts such as singular and plural, adjectival agreement, gender, definite, indefinite and partitive articles and position of adjectives, either preceding or proceeding the particular noun, which can differ from language to language: I’ve found this is really useful for students who may be learning more than one language at a particular time. This is a very successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary - it is actually so much more!
Laminate the cards if you can: they’re far more learner-friendly, and last in excellent condition for years, so you’ll be able to use them over and over again.

Task cards are an ideal language learning activity, providing multi-skill language learning opportunities. These sets are ideal for a range of French language grades.
This kind of activity really does help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their French language skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher.
The differentiated questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in French in general, and on the focus language, for example, conjugating French RE verbs in the present tense in particular.
I use task not only when we’re focusing on the focus language and grammar, but also for sub lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity. The goal is not simply to learn how French works, and how patterns can be identified and applied, it’s also about enjoying working with French, and to feel confident about doing so.
The questions are differentiated, and range in complexity and challenge, with some calling specifically upon prior and new knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some vocabulary that students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. Other grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as gender agreement, direct and indirect objects, personal pronouns and question formats in French.
The question card template available in some sets enables students to apply their knowledge practically and creatively, which is an essential element to successful language learning.
To get the most from the questions, I frequently look at the multiple-choice questions as a whole-group, identifying not only why there is a single correct response, but what the errors are in the other choices. Identifying errors, and explaining precisely why something is inaccurate or incorrect, helps students to think about language a little more laterally, and ensures that they are thinking concepts through, rather than simply relying on learned responses.
