This assembly script is written for 25 or more performers. The script follows two evacuee children from when they first listen to the declaration of war on the radio, through their evacuation and eventual return home after the war. They are taken in by an elderly couple who teach them about make do and mend and then they join in a summer fete with a Bake Off twist! Props are kept to a minimum and there are a couple of sound effects e.g. air raid sirens, train guards whistle. Suggested songs could be any traditional war time songs e.g. We’ll meet again or White Cliffs of Dover.

The scrip is aimed at a class of 25 or more students with a number of named characters. Very few props are required and there is the ability to insert a quiz at the end of the assembly.
