This is a scheme of work that I have revisited and updated for 2012, to include all APP frameworks, persuasive techniques and analysis of the Death Penalty. The scheme looks at murderers and results in a question about whether or not we should bring back the death penalty. Pupils end by writing a discursive essay, as if they are under controlled assessment conditions, as I am trying to prepare year 9 for their GCSE years. With these resources, I get the pupils to imagine that they are one of the teachers. I give them the advice on the CV and the job advert and tell them to write a CV for the character - great for getting into the character and for functional / contextual learning.

This is one of serveral lessons that i have uploaded from this year 9 scheme. The premise of our year 9 curriculum is that we start to get pupils used to the GCSE controlled assessment model by teaching them the skills that they need to pass Lang and Lit. This scheme covers Media and Non Fiction and More… this lesson can be taught alone or with the others. In this lesson, pupils analyse the use of colour in relations to texts.

This is one lesson that I have taken from a whole scheme of lessons. Each poem can be used as an individual lesson, or, if you would like to teach all of the lessons, search for ' Poetry Scheme - 3 Poems - Lesson Miss R' and they should all come up for you to work with. At the end of the unit, there is a reading and writing assessment that involves analysis and creativity too. This lesson covers 'stealing' by Duffy.

This is another of my schemes that is taught to year 9 in order to prepare them for spoken language study in years 10 and 11. This one uses clips from Educating Essex and teaches pupils key terms and then how to apply them - refers to the AQA mark scheme. All lessons and resources are here.
