A complete, printable 'Wuthering Heights' revision guide designed for Y12... could be used/adapted for GCSE, although will need to be edited...

Inspired by the fab tension chart on Teachit for 'An Inspector Calls', I created one for the novel 'Jekyll and Hyde'. Helps students to consider structure/ pace/ ordering of events/ linear v actual etc etc.

Printable handouts for Macbeth: decision tree and conversation analysis. First on is a checklist of conversation techniques (eg turn taking/ adjacency pairs), which you can use to analyse the Lady M and Macbeth scenes pre the murder of Duncan. Gets them thinking about the language of power, as well as the nature of spoken language. Resource two is a decision tree for students to fill in, exploring all the possibities and consequences facing Macbeth at the end of Act 1.

Comparison chart to (best blown up to A3) to compare any two poems from 'The World's Wife&'. Includes aspects to focus on... works really well. Could be easily adapted to compare with other prose/poetry texts too.

Students research the life of Shakespeare and The Globe (see question list) then write an entertaining dramatic monologue in the voice of the Globe... Instructions included... produces some lovely work.

A selection of war poetry from Carol Ann Duffy to Wilfred Owen (and accompanying cover sheet). You can shuffle order around, but I have printed into an A5 booklet for students. I used this with Y9 but could be used for GCSE depending on board.

A lesson designed to help students write about character succesfully- either for an unseen text or for any text studied in class. I would say GCSE level or a nice Y9 activity to get them ready for GCSE. The powerpoint should be self explantory but the starter activity is matching adejectives to definitions then there is a longer extract there to explore for main (From Clap Hands, here comes Charlie, by Beryl Bainbridge), The powerpoint should make what to do clear- for you and them.(ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR BOYS WHO CAN SOMETIMES STRUGGLE WITH EMPATHY BASED TASKS) :)

An oldie but goodie - powerpoint talks students through what lonely hearts are, with examples, then provides instructions on how to write their own. Provides some amusing results and I really push mine to write in the style of character and try to apply some of Austen's irony.

You could give this to students or delete and get them to fill in it- you'll have the answers ready-done!

Inspired by a Teachit activity on the opening to ‘A Christmas Carol’, this activity is intended for y7/8 when introducing them to Dickens. There are four different extracts from Dickens’ novels and two group tasks associated with each - analysing how he ‘hooks’ the reader in, then preparing a dramatic reading for the rest of the class, intended to inspire them to read more. Lots of fun… and gives them ownership over their text.

Find a quotation activity for chapters 4-6 on the main aspects of the chapters.

Chart to fill in on courage - includes quotes from Martin Luther King jr to start thinking, an overview of courage in the novel and a chart to fill in.

Using the excellent material provided by AQA and the TES, i put together powerpoints/ activities for the poems in the 'Relationships&' anthologies. They include activities, information, audio, video links. You can pick them up and go. The only one missing is &';To His Coy Mistress' as we approached that in a different way and also, i think some of the audio might be mixed up (don&'t know how or why?!) so do check before you go into lessons.

An introduction to Renaissance drama for A Level English Literature - my students are studying 'Hamlet' and 'The Duchess of Malfi'. A plastic skull would also be a useful, if not essential, teaching tool ! For the brave/stupid amongst you, get them to throw it to each other as they ask their 'big questions'. Also included a Renaissance drama knowledge planner. Credit also to 'Will' by Christopher Rush and 'Shakespeare's Restless World' by Dr Neil McGregor.

Best to read the uploaded instructions doc but essentially, an easily adaptable resource providing an introduction to poetry. It will also set them up for the poetry anthology to be completed at the end of the scheme of work.

Lesson plan and resource uses John Agard's poem, &'Reporting from the Frontline of the Great Dictionary Disaster&';, to teach students about etymology in a fun and engaging way. It also ties in with poems from other cultures. Could be used as a stand-alone 'fun&' lesson, or to tie in with teaching about the origins of the English language. If you have a lively class, you can get a great performance at the end... it also produces some great display work if you get students to type their work up. Enjoy :)

Copies of the poems, 'pike' by Ted Hughes and 'trout' by Seamus Heaney and a few charts/venns that allow them to compare these two. The powerpoint has pics of a pike - can be used a starter. Once we studied these, they wrote an essay, then a poem describing an animal of their own.

Taught as part of lit heritage controlled assessment for AQA as comparison with Macbeth (full details in powerpoint- just remove if not relevant!). Students had read the text independently. We began by discussing whether good and evil can be linear then read the article about the Zimbardo experiment to challenge further. Powerpoint provides intro to novel then the critics activity gets them to start thinking about interpretations. Really stretching but fruitful activity. Obviously this is very focused on my CA task but would work generally if teaching LOF as exam text.

A lesson plan and a few resources for a pre-exam revision lesson which also teaches essay skills. Helps students think about what's worth including in an essay and build analysis skills. You can cut up the essay in an envelope sheet so it's more kinaesthetic but you could just use as is.
