Electrolysis of Copper Sulphate GCSE Core Practical lesson (SC10a CC10a)

(0)
This PowerPoint will allow you to deliver the GCSE 9-1 Chemistry Core Practical in which electrolysis of copper sulphate solution is performed using copper electrodes. It includes the background theory that students need to know. The experiment is complex and time-consuming, so I have suggested some short-cuts and have provided easy-to-follow methods to share with students. I’ve also included exemplar data for students to analyse if their experimental data is not sufficient. The resources are easy to follow for teachers and readily accessible for students. This is required learning for Combined and Triple Science classes, Foundation and High-tier. Other GCSE lessons (including other lessons on Electrolysis) are available from my shop. They can be purchased individually or, alongside this lesson, as part of a whole-topic bundle.

Reacting Masses and Stoichiometry GCSE lesson (SC9b SC9c CC9b CC9c)

(0)
These PowerPoints will allow you to teach students how to calculate reacting masses (the mass of product made by a given mass of reactant and vice versa). Two PowerPoints are provided: Higher-tier lesson The PowerPoint (plus worksheet with exam-style practice questions) will allow you to teach Higher-tier only content on stoichiometry and then use this alongside numbers of moles to calculate reacting masses. Foundation-tier lesson Foundation students need to learn how calculate reacting masses but they do not need to learn how to calculate numbers of moles. The PowerPoint aimed at Foundation students revisits Relative Formula Mass and shows how to use this to approach Reacting Masses in a different way. It can also be used as backup for Higher students who struggle with Moles. The resources are easy to follow for teachers, readily accessible for students and are appropriate for Combined and Triple Science classes! Other lessons on Calculations involving Mass (including the preceding lesson on Moles) are available from my shop. They can be purchased individually or, alongside this lesson, as part of a whole-topic bundle.

(0)
This PowerPoint (plus worksheet) are designed to introduce the meaning of concentration in Chemistry and teaches students how to use cubic decimetres to calculate concentration of solutions in g dm-3. The lesson is accessible for students, easy to follow for teachers and is required learning for Combined and Triple Science classes, Foundation and Higher tiers. Be aware: this resource covers concentration in g dm-3 only. Triple Science students will also need to learn about concentrations in mol dm-3 but this is covered in a later lesson, once moles have been introduced Follow-up lessons on Calculations involving Mass are available from my shop individually or, alongside this lesson, as part of a whole-topic bundle.

(0)
This PowerPoint is designed to introduce students to Balanced Chemical Equations and links balanced equations with the Law of Conservation of Mass. The lesson is accessible for students, easy to follow for teachers and is required learning for Combined and Triple Science classes, Foundation and Higher tiers. Be aware: this resource is aims to teach students the basics of balancing equations and it assumes no prior knowledge / experience. As such, this content may take a whole lesson to cover with some classes but could be completed very quickly with students who have previous experience of balanced equations. Follow-up lessons on Calculations involving Mass are available from my shop individually or, alongside this lesson, as part of a whole-topic bundle.
