The skills of measuring to the nearest cm and conversion between cms and mms are needed at Critters Creek. Extend the task to drawing specific lengths. This thematic learning of measuring the length of critters links well to the age range maths objectives. Changing different units of metric measures uses conversion knowledge and the last task requires application of practical drawing skills.

This maths time task uses skills of interpreting tables ,calculating units of time,solving problems,ordering and extends to drawing a time line graph. Themed around Paultons Park showtimes and the zoo keepers schedule, the timetables have to be read and understood to answer questions about timings. The maths extends to have to solving problems for visitors to the park organinsing their day and to helping the zoo keeper organise a rota to keep the animals clean!

Rollercoaster wheels need polishing !The maths in this task includes identifying equivalent fractions represented visually and is themed around wheels. The visual representation of wheels help to show the equivalence in size and the task requires the wheels to be shaded to show this equivalence. This is a good activity for visual learners to transfer the concepts of equivalence.

This Maths task includes finding the area, drawing shapes of a set area, calculating irregular area shapes and ends with an area investigation to explore. The maths is themed around puddles at Paultons Penguin Park zone. The shapes are irregular and require counting whole and half squares. The skills are also used in reverse to allow drawing to a specified size. The task ends with an open ended challenge to investigate different shapes with the same area.

This task includes read ,write and convert between 12/24hr plus a.m ,p.m knowledge and sets a time problem to be solved for a Paultons Park school visit. The maths is themed around Lost Kingdom and places to eat and drink at Paultons Park. School groups often have a day plan to get to all the experiences.The timings of this are presented in a timetable to interpret and a problem has to be solved to calculate how many rides the group will enjoy ! Time durations will also have to be calculated for shopping and dining locations at Paultons Park.

This maths task includes Yr 4/5 ordering, rounding, writing statements, calculating differences, interpreting tables and has an extension challenge. The Rollercoaster Riders thematic maths is based around data presented in a table. It links directly with rollercoasters in Paultons Park.

Calculate the moves of playing penguins hopping forwards and backwards and interpret negative numbers crossing over zero . Follow instructions to decide on the penguins final landing point. Extend the task to investigate different combinations of movement across zero .

Explore the park at Paultons by moving through positions up ,down,left ,right. Record co-ordinates of stop points. Write instructions for a route using coordinates and extend the task by creating a walking route without crossing or repeating pathways!

The maths in this task uses skills of calculating the area and perimeter of composite rectangular shapes with missing dimensions and has an extension task. Peter the groundskeeper at Paultons Park is facing a maths challenge! He needs help finding areas and perimeters of different zones in the Park. He also has to design a new zone fit for the arrival of Ring Tailed Lemurs with a specific area. The open ended task and the extension add to the learning of the skills used at the beginning of this activity.

Paultons pirate ship finds treasures and the coordinates must be read and recorded. Specific points must be plotted on the quadrants (including negative number positions) and movements of the ship have to be followed. Batten down the hatches, Matey!

Which would you ride? Use our two voting sheets to create tally charts. Children could be sent to ask the rest of the class and note down results.
