The Criminology resources are aimed at Level 3 students. They cover: Learning Outcome 1: Understand the Process of Criminal Investigations AC1.4 Examine the Rights of Suspects in Criminal Investigations The resources cover PACE 1984 and look at the influence of the Human Rights Act and how there must be a balance between police powers and civil liberties. I covered the rights of suspects with students and got them to research witnesses and victims in their own time. The booklet can be used in lesson and then the student can use it to equip them when writing up their controlled assessment. I tend to send the booklet power point to reprographics and they staple it into a booklet format for me :)

The Criminology resources are aimed at Level 3 students. They cover: Learning Outcome 1: Understand the Process of Criminal Investigations AC1.3 Explain How Evidence is Processed The resources cover how evidence is processed. I got students to research x1 extra to show they have developed their own personal understanding of evidence and not simply churning out what is in the textbook. We looked at processing “dirt” and I referred them to the Soham Murders case. The booklet can be used in lesson and then the student can use it to equip them when writing up their controlled assessment. The Criminology resources are aimed at Level 3 students. They cover: Learning Outcome 1: Understand the Process of Criminal Investigations AC1.2: Assess the usefulness of investigative techniques in criminal investigations The resources start with a peer assessment of AC1.1 (this acts as a nice starter activity and gets students thinking about the structure of their controlled assessment). The resources then show students how to “assess” the usefulness of investigative techniques through a class activity. The class activity consists of three case studies where students are expected to put themselves in the situation of an investigator (I printed the cases studies out on laminate and then got students to sit in groups and make posters). The students must decide what techniques would be better suited to the case at hand. This really helped my students to tackle AC1.2 with more confidence and they came out of the lesson with a clearer idea on how to actually “assess”. I have also included an instruction booklet that students can use as guidance for their practice controlled assessment. I tend to send the booklet power point to reprographics and they staple it into a booklet format for me :). My students like this as they have a clear idea of how to set their work out. They cover: Learning Outcome 4: LO 4: Understand causes of policy change AC4.1 Assess the use of Criminological Theories in Informing Policy Development This section considers how theories (already covered earlier in the unit) can help to reduce crime. For example, the idea that CBT/pyschoanalysis can help someone overcome long-term trauma or abuse. If long-term trauma or abuse is not dealt with this can often lead to aggression /anger issues and can in some instances sadly result in criminality. This section of the exam therefore explores a variety of those theories (from diet to token economy etc). I have included a number of activities to help keep students engaged e.g. eat well plate, case studies, examples of crime prevention policies and exam questions linked to this section.

They cover: Learning Outcome 2: Know Theories of Criminality AC 2.3 Describe Sociological Theories of Criminality The resources include lesson power points, case studies, exam practice questions and worksheets. The resources are all linked back to exam questions and the Criminology spec.

The Criminology resources are aimed at Level 3 students. They cover: Learning Outcome 2: Understand how campaigns are used to elicit change  AC2.1: Compare campaigns for change The exam board expect students to compare a minimum of at least 5 campaigns for change. Here I have covered 4 campaigns for change which act as good models to set students up with their own research. There is an activity sheet (I printed this out in poster format so that students could fill it in as we went through the campaigns in lesson) that details how to tackle each campaign. It is important to note that students must break down each campaign by discussing: What it was about/what started it The purpose of the campaign Whether or not it was successful What other campaigns it can be linked to

They cover: Learning Outcome 1: Understand Social Constructs of Criminality AC1.2 Explain the social construction of criminality The resources include lessons and activities on the social constructs of criminality. They explore the idea that society creates law and therefore crimes in different countries and across cultures are interestingly comparable. The resources are all linked back to exam questions and the Criminology spec.

They cover: Learning Outcome 4: LO 4: Understand causes of policy change AC 4.3 Discuss how campaigns affect policy development I have included a power point lesson which gets students to reflect on the campaigns for change they covered in Unit 1. This helped my students to tackle this section better as they then understood how this fitted in with causes of policy change (e.g. Stephen Lawrence and the abolishment of the double jeopardy rule). I had a really good class discussion about this section and we highlighted how the government is often very reactive to incidents rather than proactive. My students were saddened that tragedies such as this had to happen before the government did anything about it. I have also included an activity sheet and some typical exam questions for this section.

They cover: Learning Outcome 2: Understand how campaigns are used to elicit change AC.2.2:Evaluate the Effectiveness of Media Used in Campaigns for Change. The resources consist of a lesson to demonstrate the effectiveness of the media in relevant campaigns for change. The booklet allows students to interact with the lesson but it also means that the students have something to help them write up an answer in the controlled assessment time constraints. There is also a worksheet for students to complete so that they can come up with some of their own media comparisons.

The Criminology resources are aimed at Level 3 students. They cover: Learning Outcome 4: LO 4: Understand causes of policy change AC4.2 Explain how social changes affect policy development This section considers how policy has been influenced by social changes and attitudes in society. There are quite a few topics under this section which could come up in the exam (I discussed a few things with my class to start with early in the lesson). I focus on two main areas in this lesson (same sex relationships and women’s rights) so that they can see how I examine the social change and then the policy development that goes with it. As homework, I set my class the task of researching 4 other topic areas of their own along with the up-skirting activity. Hope this helps.

They cover: Learning Outcome 3: Understand Causes of Criminality AC 3.1 Analyse situations of Criminality This section is building on students’ existing knowledge by using case study examples to analyse for extended exam questions. These resources include a short lesson, research and case studies where students can practice skills on the longer form exam questions.

Attached are a variety of teaching resources that helped me to assist students with their chosen campaign for change. I found that lower ability students really found the plan useful as a scaffolding device to help them set out their own campaign. I have also included the instructions i gave students on putting together their bibliography as some had never written one before. Some students used the person template to design their own t-shirts and wrist bands etc.

The resources attached contain a power point lesson and an activity booklet that students can use during the lesson. I print the booklet out and staple it together so that my students can work through it as I teach the lesson. It also means they can leave the lesson knowing exactly how to set their coursework assignment out. I have also attached a help sheet for the case study as students tend to find those tricky. These resources are aimed at Level 3 BTEC students who are studying the New Spec.

Unit 1 Changing Awareness of Crime Learning Outcome 1: Understand how crime reporting affects the public perception of criminality Assessment Criteria 1.4: Media Representation of Crime The lessons includes the following LO: Identify the different forms of media that report crime(E-C) Grade) Explain a variety of methods that the media use to represent crime (C-B Grade) Describe media representations of crime using examples to support your points (B-A Grade) Please find attached Level 3 resources for the new specification of Criminology. These resources have been created for post-16 students who are studying the Applied Certificate and Diploma in Criminology. They are suitable for both WJEC and Eduqas exam boards. The resources attached include both a teacher power point presentation and a student activity booklet. This means that students can follow the lesson easily and the assessment criteria which they are completing is clear. I have designed these booklets so that students feel more guided when it comes to the formal controlled assessment. They can follow the subject material and extend their own learning through the key term homeworks and case studies. The student booklet includes: missing word activity/ written tasks/ similar & different media observation tasks/homework. I have linked the lessons to the “Mr and Mrs S” Exam Board Assignment Brief but you can tailor the lessons to any brief that you have selected for your students. Remember that students must acknowledge the assignment brief but not make it all about the assignment brief. They must focus on meeting the assessment criteria set out by the exam board. Enjoy!

Level 3 Criminology Independent Study Pack I have put together a booklet using power point. It contains a variety of activities and exercises to encourage students to work from home. I have tried to vary activities as much as possible; there are case studies, exam questions, cut and stick exercises and lots more. I hope this helps. Learning Outcome 2: Understanding the Role of Punishment in a Criminal Justice System Assignment Criteria 2.2: Discuss the Aims of Punishment The lesson power point covers the key aims of sentencing set out by the CJA. It considers what these aims mean for the courts and how they can be used. There are activities for students to link these aims to key theorists.
