A complete lesson, PowerPoint and resources for a unit on DESCRIPTIVE WRITING (winter themed) in Upper KS2 (Year 6) Although part of a scheme, it is also able to be taught as a standalone lesson. The lesson focuses on the types of errors that we can make when writing sentences EG: Fragments Run-ons Missing words Punctuation errors Tenses The class explore these by looking at extracts together, before going onto proofread and edit extracts for themselves. The final task is then to repeat these activities with a piece of their own (previously done) writing. This is lesson 2 in a series of 8. Outstanding lesson - Judged by HMI inspection. I originally planned this lesson when coaching and mentoring a year 4 teacher, to model challenge for the more able and guided groups. I updated and redrafted the plan to teach the lesson myself in year 5 for a HMI inspection, in 2014 for which the lesson was judged outstanding.
