Lesson objective: To find pairs of numbers that satisfy an equation with two unknowns
In this lesson, students will learn how to complete one and two step equations before looking at equations with two unknowns. They will work through the questions on the presentation before completing a range of problems independently.
3 levels of differentiation are provided in the worksheet as well as the answers.
Duration: 1 hour
This is an engaging lesson which comes with an interactive power point presentation and all corresponding activity worksheets. It is designed for Year 6 but could easily be modified to suit lower KS2 and KS3.

Light is electromagnetic radiation which is visible to the human eye. In this lesson, students will learn about refraction of light and when it occurs. They will be shown examples of refraction in real life, such as in heat haze and mirages. They will then set up their own experiments to further investigate refraction with examples of investigations given. This is to challenge them to use their scientific enquiry skills.

They will be introduced to the eight planets and learn key facts about each one including which are the gas planets and which are rocky planets. They will learn about asteroids and comets and will complete their own independent research task on each planet in terms of key features.

This lesson focuses on two NC objectives:
-Discuss and evaluate how authors use language, considering the impact on the reader
-Read books that are structured in different ways and read for a range of purposes
Pupils will listen to the eerie music and will consider the genre of the text they are about the read. They will consider how to build tension and suspense from the poster shown. They will then read the text as a class with questions posed throughout by the teacher, considering how tension and suspense is built. Following this, they will write their own opening, using a haunted house picture as their stimulus and the text as their WAGOLL.
This lesson is suitable to KS2 children but can easily be modified to suit KS3.

In this lesson, students will work towards the objective: associate a fraction with division and calculate decimal fraction equivalents for a simple fraction.
They will first learn how to convert a fraction to a decimal using the short division method and will then convert a decimal to a fraction by multiplying by 100. They will have a number of differentiated conversions to complete to consolidate the skill and then will complete differentiated problems. These problems can be printed out and used as cards on tables.

At its height, the Roman Empire ruled over much of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. In this lesson, students will learn about how the Roman Army was so successful. They will read sources, watch an informative video, learn about the different battle formations and what was required of Roman soldiers.
They will be encouraged to enact the different battle formations, label the uniform of a Roman soldier and write a job application to become a soldier in the Roman Army.
