This resource bundle includes: Two powerpoint presentations totalling 142 slides. A full lesson by lesson scheme of work including clear learning objectives and outlining assessment opportunities. Eight different extracts to use with students from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. Each lesson is clearly structured with learning objectives, learning start activities, learning review activities and opportunities for students to demonstrate and assess their learning in a number of ways. The lessons aim to develop a common approach for tackling each question to build students' confidence. There are a number of opportunities for students to tackle the different question types and the presentations provide clear steps and guidance to support students during the assessment process. Model answers and assessment sheets also included. A 50 slide presentation of 4 lessons designed to introduce and consolidate approaches to the unseen poetry section of the English Literature exam. The lessons link to the new AQA specification but could easily be adapted to suit other specifications. Each lesson contains a wide variety of activities including individual and group work, assessment opportunities and model answers. Lesson 1 - introduction to unseen poetry working through an analysis of 'Hard Frost' by Andrew John Young. Lesson 2 - unseen analysis of 'Nettles' by Vernon Scannell. Lesson 3 - unseen analysis of 'In the Orchard After Midnight' by Brian Patten focusing on mood and tone. Lesson 4 - introduction to comparing unseen poems for the final question on Paper 2 of the English Literature exam. Lessons 3 and 4 can be used in conjunction with the AQA unseen poetry resource booklet which can be found on the AQA website. I have only included the first stanza of each poem due to copyright reasons but have included clear links as to where you can access the rest of the poem within the presentation.

My students have struggled to get to grips with the structure question (question 3) on the new Paper 1, Section A exam for AQA. I recently attended an AQA support meeting and planned this lesson to incorporate some of the exam board's messages with regards to teaching the structure question. My students produced mucher better responses to question 3 after I went through this lesson with them. The lesson is focused on the opening of '1984' and includes 15 slides plus a copy of the extract to use with students. Includes: Sample 8 mark answer Planning grid for students Clear and explicit links to the AQA markscheme Key terminology and suggested phrases Hope it helps!

A two week (8 lesson) scheme of work introducing students to Paper 1, Section A (Explorations in Creative Reading) of the new AQA English Language GCSE. The aim is to introduce students to the format of the exam and teach them the skills needed to analyse unseen prose extracts to be able to answer questions 1-3. The scheme of work focuses on extracts from the opening of 'Fahrenheit 451', 'From Russia With Love' and 'The Night Circus' - I have not been able to upload these due to copyright restrictions but they are available online.
