This is a 10 lesson bundle of Edexcel 9-1 topic 5 Health and Disease lessons. Tracking, differentiation, assessment and AFL are build into the lessons.

These are 'plug and play' lessons designed for ease of application and good to outstanding lessons. I am very pleased with this series of lessons as it has inspired a difficult year 10 cohort and increased motivation in science.
Lesson 4b is the follow on for lesson 4. The lesson is written inline with the specification points for Topic 5 Edexcel 9-1 new GCSE.
The lesson starts with a differentiated started where the students work up a pyramid of tasks. The information is presented of the methods the body has to defend itself from pathogens before a hinge question assesses understanding of the topic an directs the students to an appropriate task. The lesson finishes with an exam question that can be recorded in the learning outcome tracker.
This is an outstanding series of lessons aimed at providing the foundation to GCSE 9-1 success. This Mastery style curriculum scaffold learning and includes constant recapping and revising to ensure content and skills are not lost. The scheme includes two short answer assessments with remediation of knowledge, a 'redraft for success' 6 mark question, exit ticket revision.

The lesson starts by matching the keywords to the images. The lesson then moves to review the examples of the evolution of giraffes linking each stage to the exam specification. The students then rate their confidence and move on to differentiated storyboard tasks looking at the evolution of the woolly mammoth. The lesson finishes with a 6 mark question with a mark scheme so the students can self-assess their answers.
This is a revision resource that encourages independence and learning of key outcomes. This would take a couple of lessons to complete as there are multiple tasks to improve understanding.
This CPD session is set to last about 20 mins. I used this technique extensively as a science teacher; both to assess misconception and to drive differentiation. The presentation includes examples from other subjects as well as the theory and justification to using them.
This is an ideal lesson to run after teaching the basics of animal and plant cells.
The lesson is focused around a 6 mark GCSE-style exam questions. It is highly differentiated via Gold- Silver-Bronze tasks. It includes a hinge-point question to give the students the appropriate challenge or support in the build up task then an attempt at the answer before feedback based on model answer followed by a ‘green-pen’ opportunity to demonstrate improvements.
Revision timetable and resource bank. To use: print and give to the students, put it up in the lab, send it home to parents or publish as an electric copy.
QR codes and hyperlinked topic titles take the students to a revision resource (mostly BBC Bitesize), on most days there is a key diagram and a selection of subtopics to revise.
This resource is designed to chunk the challenge of revision, giving students two months to revise every topic required for the mock exam that Edexcel are using to calibrate results. The calendar starts on the first of March and goes up until two days before the first exam.
Revising is a vital skill that many teachers neglect to teach their pupils. Most students struggle to plan their revision and rely on pre-exam cramming, as these students will not sit their final exam this year we need to ensure we help them retain the information. Spreading it out like this makes it an achievable challenge and will help them with long-term retention.
The lesson starts with a simple assessment of students understanding of the concept of speed. The lesson then poses a GCSE question to challenge students before two different opportunities for the teacher to model how to calculate SDT. To assess the students learning I have embedded a hinge point question, this will redirect learning to the most appropriate task, e.g. gold, silver, bronze or the Purple extension. The lesson gives the student the opportunity to show of their new learning with a GCSE question before the lesson is concluded with an exit ticket.
The lesson is of vital importance to young adults as it make students aware of the risk of unprotected sex, the lesson in also LO 5.8 on the new Edexcel 9-1 GCSE scheme.

The lesson them moves to looking a facts of 7 STIs and ranking them in an arrowhead 7. There is a brief look on the prevention of the contraction of the disease and then students attempt a exam style HSW worksheet; there is an extension built into the worksheet.

There is a brief discussion of vaccination before learning is assessed via a 'deep' hinge point question. There are two activities that, depending on students understanding can be done from this and an extension task. The lesson finishes with an exam question and reflection in the Learning Outcomes sheet.
The lesson looks at investigating the standard food tests for: starch, protein, sugar, fat. The lesson if for the higher ability students. The lesson tests student's understanding with an exam question before an exit ticket concludes learning.

There is then a teacher lead (all within the presentation) discussion about the use of 5 kingdoms and the move to the 3 domains. This is then assessed via a deep diagnostic hinge question that direct learning to the students weaker area. The lesson finished on an Edexcel specific exam question with the opportunity to review the answers, this is recorded in the exit ticket tracker.

The lesson starts by establishing a definition of GMO. It then moves on to reviewing a couple of videos with guided questions to promote thinking. The lesson looks to engage student in a paired research project in the exam board specific species before posing an exam question.
