Please be aware, this resource was last updated in 2018 An introduction to Behavioural Econ through experiments, theorists and research. i designed this for my Y12 groups for their return from Study Leave, to be delivered in that strange world between Y12 and Y13. I needed to engage them quickly so put together this set of lessons. There is enough material to cover either 3 or 4 lessons. It took my groups and I three lessons just to get through the content on the PowerPoint as they really enjoyed the discussion and the introduction of new material and terminology. This Assembly resource is inspired by the BBC Planet Earth clip which shows the baby iguana desperately trying to outrun the snakes. He makes it home - with a few scary moments along the way. But, he doesn’t give up. To support the content, there are 4 short clips (to access the link, click the picture) the iguana (approx. 2 minutes) the Wright Brothers first flight (approx 1.5 minutes) the life of Marie Curie (approx 2 minutes) Usain Bolt’s record-breaking 100m run (approx 30 seconds) The achievements and determination of Marie Curie, Usain Bolt and The Wright Brothers are used. There is a summary and ‘next steps’ section. I’d say it is most appropriate for Key Stage 2-3. This resource will fill a 15-30 minute slot, depending on your time allocation.

Would be most suitable for Key Stage 1-3. ****The first part of the Assembly is meant to be cartoon strip style; the students watch the slides as you tell the story (everything you need Story and Script-wise is in the Notes section). The students listen to the story of the rich boy and his Dad. It takes the students through the time the rich boy and his Dad visit (who they consider to be) a poor boy and his Dad. Whilst there the boy discovers the true meaning of Abundance. Following on from that, students are asked to think differently about Abundance and consider what they have in Abundance - that, essentially, money isn’t everything. There is a clip from an old Apple advert which challenges us to think differently and challenges students to think about what they have and are able to share. The resource is editable, should you wish to change it for the needs of a particular audience.

Initially i thought this would most appropriate for younger students but I’ve found the older ones enjoy it too and remember it for a long time. STRUCTURE: starts with an introduction to Mr Fredericksen and a clip from the film (click on the image to access). The clip shows Mr F and his wife and their combined purpose in varying stages of their life together. Then, all of a sudden, he is alone. (tissues at the ready!) then there is a look at finding our own purpose in life and emphasises our differences make our own journey unique there are tips to finding our own purpose and next steps at the end we listen to UNWRITTEN by Natasha Beddingfield - great song and fits the bill perfectly. (click on the image to access) When I deliver this, whether in a pastoral, self-esteem, mental health session or Assembly, i always give each person a quote from the song, which is why the last slide is there. I print it and slice it into a pocket-sized piece of everyone. I LOVE delivering this! Gives a boost every time.

Focus: students reflect on the theme of Friendship - I usually deliver this quite close to the beginning of Year 7 when friendships can falter. students look at a variety of images and asked to consider them alongside the music. I suggest “You’ve got a friend in me”. students consider ‘what makes a good friend’ (FAITH school: there is a Gospel reflection and prayer)

This is an A4 sized worksheet which consists of two downloads: colour and black and white. It can be used with a range of students to help them identify their anxiety triggers. Instructions are printed on the left-hand side and are step-by-step. I have used it with a range of students but it seems to work best with KS3/4.
