A knowledge organiser prepared for the AQA New Spec, but can suit any . Whilst we know Studying Society no longer exists as a separate topic, we have opted to teach a mini research methods unit (soon to be uploaded) after the introduction. This means students have an awareness of the methods and can then feed it into the other units. This is the knowledge organiser for the mini unit. If you download please leave a review.

This is a mini research unit that will be taught ahead of the units (after the introduction unit). It should take approximately 11 lessons to go through the basic research methods. I am aware this is no longer necessary to be taught as an explicit unit, however we feel they need the basic knowledge to be able to answer the questions in the different units. The homework task refers to a knowledge organiser than can be bought in my store. However, the homework task can be completed without it. It’s just our departmental push on the use of them throughout the unit. Lesson 3- Looking at Primary, Secondary, Qual & Quan data. Considering how studies are peer reviewed and evaluated. New AQA Specification 9-1. Lesson looking at how educational policy changes have impacted educational achievement. Students complete a timeline- first activity is to put the information above the timeline. Second activity is to consider if it reduced or increased inequalities looking at gender, ethnicity and social class.

Planned for New 9-1 Specification Lesson looking at absolute and relative poverty. Lots of UK statistics for class discussion around what they believe constitutes poverty, causes and consequences of poverty. Students then look at Peter Townsends (1979) study into relative poverty, critique it and answer 2x 3mark questions.

New Spec- 9-1 This lesson looks at an introduction to Functionalist viewpoint on the nuclear family by looking at the work of G.P Murdock. Students look at the four functions of the nuclear family. Next lesson will be Parsons. If you download please review.

I am planning to issue this over the Easter Holidays. Students use Cornel note taking strategies to show their understanding of each of the Key texts. There are several exam questions relating to each of the key texts to develop students confidence in using these texts.

2 Lessons on different types of interview (structured, in-depth and group). Looking at 3 examples, followed by design challenge, exam practice and WAGOLL in lesson 1. Lesson 1 may take longer than one hour, particuarly if you use a full length episode to support them. Lesson 2 looks at group interviews with a summary worksheet and a further exam question and WAGOLL.

New Spec 9-1 The lesson concentrates on looking at Rapoport & Rapoport (1982) as Key Thinkers. There is a proforma and students evaluate the study. Also covered looking at why there is family diversity. Please leave a review.

Planned for AQA 9-1 Specification This lesson looks at different explanations of poverty in the UK. It starts with a recap of key New Right ideas, followed by the cycle of deprivation and Charles Murray’s study into the Underclass. The lesson then looks at globalisation as a cause of poverty, finishing with a 12 mark question.

Planned for the new 9-1 Specification AQA Paper 2. A lesson that looks at the Marxist approach to class. Students have a worksheet and have to go on a scavenger hunt for information on the key terms needed to explain the Marxist approach. Evaluation of the theory followed by an exam question.

Planned for 9-1 specification. This is the last lesson, number 15 is an assessment that is taken from a past paper so i cannot upload this as it is property of AQA. This lesson looks at feminism and patriarchy. The main crux of the lesson is to learn about the Key Thinker Sylvia Walby and her theory of the six patriarchal structures. Planned for 9-1 AQA specification A lesson that looks at Max Weber’s theory on social class, covering power, class and status. Discussion based activities, with a case study at the end.

A lesson looking at Ann Oakley and the conventional family. There are some slides looking at the effects of the pressure of living a conventional lifestyle can have have on wellbeing such as financial implications, mental health issues etc. Students complete the proforma and comprehension questions.

Lesson 5 on AQA 9-1 Specification Crime & Deviance This lesson focuses on Merton’s Strain Theory and briefly touches on Cohen’s theory (but this is covered in more detail later in the unit) The lesson uses my Key Thinker Template and students evaluate the theory. Please leave a review
