GCSE English Language - EXAM REVISION STARTER ACTIVITIES (language analysis)

I made this for my students when I wanted them to revise prior units even when moving onto a new topic. Each of these starters are 5-10 mins long. They get a slide with an exam language question, sample quotes and a PEE sentence starter. They have 2 mins to write their PEE. The students seem to like it as it’s fun and competitive. Great for peer assessment too. It’s worked really well for me.

A fun quiz on descriptive writing. Could be used as a starter or plenary. Example question: “‘You’re like a miniature buddha covered in hair’. Alliteration, metaphor or simile?” The students love it and really shows where the learning gaps are.

Fun Starter: TOP TEN LISTS!

A really fun starter that my classes love. Students have 2 minutes to list the top ten of a topic e.g. 10 most used words in the English language, 10 most popular websites etc. Timer included which you can change for a longer/shorter time. I have included 13 questions for your classes to do (and the template is there for you to add more). It really gets the students engaged.
