This PowerPoint takes you through how to work out a major key from the sharps and flats in the key signature. Then follow this with worksheets - Working out a major key from the key signature with sharps and flats, which give the students a chance to go through some examples. This can be used in classroom lessons or individual music theory lessons for the Grade 5 ABRSM music theory exam.

A worksheet to help students work out a major key from the key signature with sharps. I would use this following on from my PowerPoint Identifying a major key from the key signature - sharps and flats. I also have a worksheet for major keys with flats. These are both available separately on TES or in a lesson bundle. This can be used in classroom lessons or individual music theory lessons for the Grade 5 ABRSM music theory exam.

A worksheet to allow students to read the note names and work out the word, then match to one of the pictures. There is also an answer sheet on the second page. This would follow my PowerPoint ‘Pitch notation basics - reading note names treble and bass clef staves’, and ‘Reading note names bass clef - basic’ and ‘Reading note names treble clef - basic’ worksheets, available separately. This should be a fun simple sheet for younger students or a quick starter for those needing some revision.

This PowerPoint shows the basics of reading rhythmic notation, starting with crotchets and quavers or quarter notes and eighth notes, using ‘Ta‘ , ‘Ti-ti’ and introduces the minim or half note ‘To-e’ You can click the sound icon to hear the rhythms spoken as they are introduced, then there are a few to try by yourself!
