This 16-page resource booklet contains a wide range of challenging and engaging comprehension activities for use throughout the reading of Elizabeth Bishop’s poem 'One Art.’ They are perfect for aiding the progress of students learning poetry either in KS3 and KS4 in preparation for poetry/unseen poetry at GCSE, as the tasks draw on English Literature assessment objectives - suitable for all examining bodies - it is clearly highlighted within each task regarding which assessment strands the task is designed to demonstrate. The booklet is provided in both Word (to allow for easy editing) and PDF (to ensure for consistency of formatting between computers). Activities within the booklet include (amongst many others): ‘Analysing Context’ - helping students to ‘Show understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written.’ ‘Analysing Subject Matter, Language and Structure’ - to help students to ‘Analyse the language, form and structure used by a writer to create meanings and effects, using relevant subject terminology where appropriate.’ ‘Diary Entry’ - to help students to ‘Use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect, with accurate spelling and punctuation. This bundle contains all of the resources needed for a complete Anglo-Saxon learning sequence, including the comprehensive lesson resources and informative knowledge organiser. The series of interesting and engaging lessons aims to equip children with a solid understanding of the changes in Britain throughout the Anglo-Saxon Period. In addition to the detailed knowledge that they obtain, children also learn vital skills in constructing timelines, interpreting sources and texts and developing their understanding of chronology. Each of the resource packs are designed to cover two teaching sessions (so 10 lessons in total) and they focus on: 1.Introduction to the Anglo-Saxons; 2.Rulers and Social Structure; 3.Daily Life 4.Battles and Conflicts 5.Religions and Beliefs In each lesson, the learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through logical, step-by-step activities. There are also clear hyperlinks for the video resources, and engaging, well-structured worksheets for the activities. The knowledge organiser includes details of well-known Anglo-Saxon leaders and people, details of Kingdoms, a map showing how the Anglo-Saxons settled, information about battles and daily life, food, clothes and an Anglo-Saxons timeline. In the past, I have used these lessons with children from across upper KS2 (years 5 and 6) however, with some adaptations they may be suitable for other year groups. In this engaging lesson, children are provided with an introductory understanding of the Romans, through: -learning who the Romans were and when they lived; -understanding the different periods of the Roman era; -remembering and sequencing important Roman dates. The learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through the following step-by-step journey: -Knowledge harvesting - gauging what children already know about the Romans, and gathering what else they would like to know; -Answering recall questions based upon the areas of history that they have learnt previously that are pertinent to this topic; -Gathering base information about the Romans through information on the slide show and through watching a short, informative video, including when and where they lived, how they operated and the different Roman eras; -Gaining an understanding about how the Roman empire spread; -Following clear instructions and precise dates to create their own timeline of key Roman events; -Completing plenary activities to demonstrate their understanding of each of the concepts learnt in the lesson; -Self-reflecting on the extent to which they feel they have met the learning objective. Included is the comprehensive PowerPoint presentation (20 slides), which contains all of the information needed to teach the lesson. They learn through: -Recalling and remembering foundation contextual facts about the Bible; -Predicting, reading, interpreting and sequencing the Ten Commandments; -Analysing how different Christians may read the commandments, depending upon if they are fundamentalist or liberal; -Considering important rules and procedures that should be followed at school, to create their own 'School Commandments’; -Evaluating their School Commandments through thought-provoking reflection questions; This resource pack contains a comprehensive and colourful 16-slide Powerpoint, which guides teachers and students through the learning activities. Challenge activities are provided in order to enrich learning for higher-attaining learners. A template worksheet is also provided (in Word and PDF) for the students to scribe their school commandments. In the past, I have used this lesson with children from across Key Stage 2 - the key learning is aligned with national expectations for RE, and also the content prescribed by most diocese regions. They learn through: -Recalling and remembering foundation contextual facts about the Bible; -Defining the term ‘natural world’ and differentiating between natural and man-made phenomena; -Watching a clear and engaging video about the Creation Story from Genesis 1; -Answering comprehension questions about the story and completing a storyboard to show what happens at each stage; -Examining the aspects of the story that appear to inconsistent scientifically, and questioning why this may be; -Considering how fundamentalist Christians and liberal Christians may interpret the story in different ways. This resource pack contains a comprehensive and colourful 23-slide Powerpoint, which guides teachers and students through the learning activities. Challenge activities are provided in order to enrich learning for higher-attaining learners. A link to the video is also included (slide 14), as is a helpful storyboarding template (both in Word and PDF format). In the past, I have used this lesson with children from across Key Stage 2 - the key learning is aligned with national expectations for RE, and also the content prescribed by most diocese regions.
