Common Core Listening Practice -- Here Be Dragons!

Common Core Listening Practice -- Here Be Dragons!

We all know our students could use practice listening! The Common Core certainly believes this to be necessary. Common core standardized tests such as Smarter Balanced specifically require students to listen to spoken passages and demonstrate their ability to comprehend, interpret and apply information derived from spoken text. Students will listen to an informative NPR story about how different cultures perceive dragons. They will also learn about the history of dragons in cultures from ancient times to the present. Students are provided with space to take notes while they listen. Then students answer a variety of multiple choice questions about the article they listened to and write a response to an essay question.
