This lesson introduces KS3 students to the conventions of the Detective Genre using short film clips and a fun game. This works really well as either the first lesson of a topic on this genre or as a transition day activity as the students will enjoy the lesson and be left feeling that studying English is not always reading and writing.
This resource takes you through a range of activities that explore language, form and structure alongside thematic links and theory. This lesson incorporates drama activities and creative activities to ensure students enjoy learning about Shakespeare's play. This lesson will take between 5-7 hours in teaching time. This is also available as part of a complete unit of work on this text if preferred.
A thorough exploration of this poem including analysis of form, language and structure, differentiated notes and tasks plus an exam style question including advice on how to respond to the question. This is everything you need to teach this poem at GCSE level.
This bundle is perfect for any mid ability to top ability group and has something for everyone. As a passionate writer myself, this resource works time and time again to progress the quality of students writing and is brilliant for reluctant writers as you can set it up as a lesson that requires only a little ‘carefully crafted’ writing.
Stretch and challenge lesson resource is FREE
This is the first of several lessons on this new option on GCSE syllabuses. These lessons are differentiated and supported whilst also offering challenge and options to create revision resources in preparation for the final examinations. These lesson would work as well for KS3 groups who need a strengthened syllabus in preparation for the more robust (9-1) specifications as for KS4 students preparing for exams. More lessons to follow shortly.
This resource includes three differentiated poems with leading questions that traverse language, structure and literary devices. This has been created with the Holocaust Memorial Day (27th January) in mind, although it could be used as a supply activity, revision resource, or recap for Unseen Poetry to get students re-engaged with this part of their exams. This is also available as part of a Bundle with an Assembly and a Reading Paper in my shop.
This lesson is highly differentiated, with learning goal sheets to ensure progress is evident and checked/reviewed at several checkpoints during the lesson. It also includes a detailed lesson plan and group activities that are then jigsawed to ensure all students are responsible for their own learning. I have alphabetised the poem for use as a starter activity and created a more accessible question sheet for students likely to achieve grade 2/3. This is a really good lesson to show the students working harder than you do!
This fully differentiated and detailed resource takes students through the context, form, language and structure in a clear, effective and engaging way. This resource would suit teaching for GCSE poetry anthologies or as a guide to approaching Unseen Poetry and would work for both KS3 students and KS4. Contextual links make this particularly relevant to teaching in Black History Week. There is everything here to secure an excellent grade on this poem that features in the new GCSE (9-1) specifications.
This bundle incorporates 5 powerpoints that take you through a step by step analysis of key scenes and each Act considering, language, form, structure, characters and themes. It includes some theory on the text and in the final powerpoint draws on activities that engage students with the overview alongside using this to access exam style questions. This is everything you would need to teach this text.
This set of 4 posters create a visually engaging display with highlighted language and structural devices, colour coded links to themes and images to support all types of learners in remembering some key quotations from this text as they approach the Closed Book exams. Available individually or as part of a bundle in my shop.
This lesson is designed for teaching on the International GCSE specification or as an Unseen Poem as it both explores this poem and teaches students how to approach a previously unseen text. The activities are engaging, active and nurture enquiry in a supported way.
This resource is a constructed question based on Inspector Calls and an extract from ‘The Glorious Heresies’ by Lisa McInerney in the style of the OCR exam paper.
