Wonderful WAGOLLs and Grotty Grammar

Average Rating4.45
(based on 51 reviews)

My intention is to provide an inexpensive, engaging and highly useful What A Good One Looks Like (WAGOLL) and Grammar resources for use across the primary phase. I shall be uploading many WAGOLLs over the forthcoming weeks, across all genres. I also intend to upload many resources from my own scheme Grotty Grammar, which again will be useful across both Key Stages.

Laminate, cut out and then stick together to create a simple but effective alphabet chart. Lower case + upper case letters are included.

Simple home-made book I made for Year 1 during their first full week back at school to get them used to sounding out + blending words. The pictures are all the same to stop the children from guessing or using picture clues and get them to rely on phonemic strategies. The children will draw their own pictures as an extension activity. I intend to make some more of these books over the forthcoming weeks.

Interactive Phonics 'Alien or Astronaut' game

This is a good activity to have out all the time in Key stage 1, whether on a spare bit of wall, on the back of a door etc. Laminate the pictures. Make multiple copies of the yellow circle as these will be asteroids. On the asteroids, write real and nonsense words which the children have to blu-tac to the alien or astronaut accordingly. It's a good idea to have a couple of these games out as a useful extension activity for guided reading/literacy if a group finishes early.

Grid for investigating traditional tales

Children investigate the features of a range of traditional stories and record their findings on this grid. Works well when children work in small group. Grid can then be photocopied and stuck in their writing books.
