I have been a teacher for over 20 years - all the stuff I upload has been tried and tested in my classroom. I don't mind a discussion on Twitter too where I also share new resources. I now have a personal website: https://andylutwyche.com/

Maths Pub Quizzes - Fun Activity

Some quizzes on fun maths facts. Ideal for KS3 and KS4 students. I decided to do a maths quiz in the style of a pub quiz - hope you enjoy it. It's supposed to be a bit of fun, end of term type thing.

Building A Swimming Pool

Use the information to cost the building of a swimming pool. I have tried to use genuine values for costs of hire and labour, so the the results should be fairly accurate.

The Unbelievable Bulk - Enlargement

(10)
Calculate how angry The Bulk is by figuring out what scale factor he's enlarged by and using Bulk's 'Angry Scale'. See how that relates to his 'safety' box and its surface area and volume.

Spot The Mistakes - Percentages

This is a twist on revision notes. I have written some notes and given examples but there are mistakes that the students have to correct. They must therefore read the notes very carefully and a partner must check their work. The idea is derived from an idea born from a discussion on Twitter (if you're not on Twitter, seriously think about it). I have split the notes up into two bits but I have included the whole thing so that you can chop them up your own way, or change stuff if you want. It's a bit of an experiment and we&'ll see how it goes!

Spot The Mistakes - Expressions and Equations

This is a revision aid where students must read the 'notes' carefully and find the deliberate errors (and possibly undeliberate ones!). I have split (with some overlap) it up into three parts going from 'what is an expression/identity/equation?', through simplifying, expanding brackets, factorising into a bracket, solving equations, multiplying out 2 brackets, factorising quadratics and solving quadratics (factorising, completing the square and the formula). The aim is to get them active in their revision!

Defuse The Bomb - Fractions, Decimal, Percentages

The Mathematician, that notorious terrorist, has put a series of bombs around the country, but each has a clue to defuse it. These cover many aspects of fractions, decimals and percentages and are numbered so that they get increasingly difficult. As I say, my classes like these as starters/plenaries, hence there are so many.

Codebreaker - Solving Equations

Three different codebreakers covering solving equations of increasing difficulty as you go through them. Solve the equations, find the letter and complete the anagrams of films.
