This resources is based on the creative writing question: 'Write a description based on this image'. It helps students to plan and gather their ideas.

This resource contains 24 weeks worth of spelling, each with 10 spellings. They are grouped in synonyms so that the students create their own vocabulary book as they go that they can then use in their own writing. Words include: good bad happy sad loud quiet look said English terminology alternatives for 'this shows…' plus many more. I now have year 8 students confidently using words such as phosphorescent, exhibits, phenomenal and nonchalantly.

This pack includes 10 recommended books to encourage students to read. The presentation can be put up on the board or be printed off as a display poster (I have them stuck on all the classroom doors). Each book has the cover and plot summary included. There is also a set of bookmarks that can be printed for each book which are kept in the library and English class rooms.

A great learning mat with a step by step guide for writing an effective paragraph that can apply to most Language style questions and Literature exam questions. This learning mat breaks down each component of the paragraph and offers a variety of sentence openers and academic language that students can use. A brilliant resource for differentiation of to give to students as a self-help sheet. I have these out on the tables almost every lesson! Review and follow :-)

This is a series of slides with a spinner on which points to various characters and themes from the play and asks the students to make links. Great for quick fire revision questions, effective retrieval or plenary tasks.

This planning sheet is designed to help students prepare for the English Language GCSE style question based on an image. You can stick any image on to the sheet and reuse as many ties as you like! It offers a plan for the overall structure, linguistic devices, sensory vocabulary and sentence structures. I have included my vocabulary mat that I have on my desks at all times to aid with planning. It means students are using the same high level vocabulary constantly until it becomes automated.

These learning mats help students to structure their essay paragraphs so that they include all assessment objectives. The essay plan gives them a strict structure to follow to ensure they include all aspects needed in their essays. The learning mats also provide ways for students to self-check their work, and provide sentence stems and handy hints so that student can become more independent. This is a great starting point for all students. I have found it to be a winning formula with borderline student and it is easy to adapt and expand for the higher ability students.

Each resource is an independent therapy sheet on questions 2, 3 and 4 that students can work through after an assessment to help with progress. I get students to choose their weakest question and work on this. The powerpoint gives an over view of hints and tips per question, timing writing frames, useful vocab etc. Each sheet has: A breakdown of the exam criteria Planning Examples Space for students to use these skills themselves. These sheets offer differentiated and independent feedback to students for them to then redraft their work to show instant progress. Great for Mock Exam Feedback or an end of unit exam!

This powerpoint takes students through 15 key quotations from the play. These quotations are perfect for exam preparation as they cover the key characters and central themes. Alongside the powerpoint, there is a booklet for students to complete that they can then use for revision. This collection uses dual coding, discussion and repetition to help students memorise quotations. There is also a “snap” game included for fun revision techniques. The powerpoint also includes re-capping and BIG questions to get students thinking about HOW these quotations link to the big ideas of the play. This will really help your students feel confident entering the exam if they can rattle of 15 superb quotations!
