KS1 trees: writing for science

Here are the resources I use with my students to learn about the structure of trees (parts of a tree) and the differences between coniferous and deciduous trees. There are opportunities for children to answer questions with a talk partner or as a class to develop their ideas for writing. Included within the lesson starters is a sample of what their writing might look like and a few prompts for the student to use to keep them on track. To aid in starting to identify trees, I’ve included a lesson starter about identifying and describing an oak tree. There is a word bank and worksheet for this task. Included: Lesson starter on structure of a tree (parts of a tree) PDF Lesson starter on types of trees (conifer and deciduous) PDF Word bank/word mat Lesson starter on identifying an oak tree (PDF) Oak tree worksheet You might also like: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/animal-diets-carnivore-herbivore-and-omnivore-ks1-12278108 https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/habitats-writing-for-science-12063557 If you like this resource, then please rate it and/or leave a comment. These clip cards are a great way for students to practice recognizing numbers to 10 including subitizing and in words. 55 cards are included which model various visual representations including ten frames and pictures. Each card has three possible answers. Students select the correct answer by clipping a clothespin, peg or paper clip to it. I like to laminate these cards so students can simply circle the correct answer using a dry erase marker. This works great as a tough spot activity.
