Lesson Description: This is a beloved challenge for students; perhaps they have the need for speed! For sure this challenge gives students a chance to understand the benefits of gears as well as building a car with a low center of gravity. Ideally students should work together in teams of 2 to 4 students.3 Learning Goals: Students learn how to build a racer with a gear down configuration. Also the racer must stop automatically at the finish line. Success Criteria: • Team works together to build a functional racer • Team's racer can go from the start to the finish • Team uses a sensor to stop at the finish Assessment Strategies and Monitoring Progress: Team has competed in a race against another team (How well were they able to work together?)

Lesson Description: In this challenge students must navigate around objects with different colors, for example go to the left of red objects and to the right of blue objects. This will challenge students to make precise turns as well as using the ultrasonic sensor and/or color sensor. Learning Goals: Students learn to measure distance and angles to make more precise turns. Also students learn to use a combination of sensors to avoid objects. Success Criteria: • Team works together to build a functional robot • Team's robot can go from the start to the finish • Team avoids all objects and goes around the correct direction • Team uses one or more sensors Resources and Materials: EV3 Kits Student Laptops/Computers Electrical Tape (to mark objects) Duplo or other Objects for slalom course

Lesson Description: In this challenge students must play a 1-on-1 Hockey Face-Off and try to get as close to the goal as possible. This will require students to develop a more complex program using the ultrasonic sensor and color sensor. Learning Goals: Students learn to measure distance and angles to make more precise turns. Also students learn to use a combination of sensors to avoid objects. Success Criteria: • Team works together to build a functional robot • Team's robot can avoid the other team’s robot • Team can program using multiple sensors • Team can make it near the goal • Team is able to score a goal Resources and Materials: EV3 Kits Student Laptops/Computers Electrical Tape (to create the hockey rink) Duplo or other Objects for puck

Lesson Description This is the final challenge for the Advanced EV3 Robotics program. The idea is that it connects robotics to real-world themes and challenges. It can also be used as a practice First Lego League challenge. Students must create a brief presentation as well as design a robotics mission. Learning Objectives Students will learn to work in a team to complete a project. They will also learn how to manage their time and tasks based on individual strengths. Finally, teams will get to practice presenting their topic and robotics mission. Resources & Materials: EV3 Kits Student Laptops Electrical Tape Pen and/or Pencil Paper

Lesson Description In this challenge students must complete a triathlon, which includes a swimming, running, and cycling circuit. Students will need to make a multi-step program that uses the color sensor and variables to keep track of laps. Learning Goals: Students learn to create multiple programs. Also they learn to use variables to keep track of laps. Success Criteria: • Team works together to build a functional robot • Team can program using the color sensor • Team can complete each of the three circuits • Team uses variables to keep track of laps Resources and Materials: EV3 Kits Student Laptops/Computers Electrical Tape (to create the circuits) Figures to represent each sport (optional)
