I'm a year 6 teacher, Upper Key Stage 2 and Maths lead of a Good school. My resources will include a huge focus on maths, but there will also be things from the different subject areas, with a key focus on SATs. Maths has been a key focus in our school due to poor progress measures and attainment. Over the last two years, we have improved our results from 49% expected and 7% GD, to 93% expected and 43% GD. These resources have played a big part in that improvement.

Newspaper Writing Lebanon

(0)
Planning documents for creating a newspaper based on the Lebanon Civil War. This includes a learning journey (through a smart notebook). It has examples of what a good example is. We did this after studying Oranges in No Man’s Land. The kids found it thoroughly engaging and wrote excellent newspaper articles.
Planning/Marking document

Planning/Marking document

(0)
This is a succinct marking and planning document for Maths. As a school, we teach in a Same Day Intervention style. It has been hugely successful for us, contributing to our year 6 data going from 49% expected and 7% GD, to 93% expected and 43% GD. This has happened in the space of 2 years. Our use of this document is vital to the success of the lesson. It makes the teacher identify what the possible misconceptions of a lesson will be - these should be part of the lesson. What’s wrong is just as important as what is correct. The top of the document shows which children require support at the beginning of the lesson to re-enforce the previous day’s learning. (This would happen whilst the other children completed a starter activity. There is a section for mathematical vocabulary - this is important for a teacher, but can be invaluable for any support staff in the room. During the input, support staff will identify children who are finding the concept difficult - checking their whiteboard work etc to create a list of children who will be intervened with immediately afterwards. The bottom two boxes are for when the independent work section of the lesson is completed. The children go out to play, whilst the teacher quickly checks the work. The initials of any children needing intervention or consolidation work are placed in these sections. When they come in from play, this happens immediately, whilst other children are pushed onto more challenging tasks to deepen their learning and understanding. I love this document - and it’s so simple. Please feel free to ask me about it in more detail if you wish.
Right and Wrong Scenarios and Discussion

Right and Wrong Scenarios and Discussion

(0)
A lesson on Right and Wrong, using collaborative work and discussion. We did this lesson to tackle different things that both children and adults are faced with in modern society. There is a focus on bullying, drinking, vandalism, graffiti and swearing. The children will discuss the different scenarios in groups, then must place them in order and write a paragraph for each, justifying their decision. There is also an example of a paragraph in the notebook, alongside many discussion points. We found this very powerful, particularly with our year 6s. It could be used lower down school but also in a high school setting.
Multiplication and division tables

Multiplication and division tables

(0)
A resource used for increasing speed and proficiency in all operations. It combines multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. It has squares, cubes and the roots. There are fractions, decimals and percentages. My class are expected to work through this as quickly as possible. We do them weekly as a starter activity, and the progress has been phenomenal. We have gone from 49% reaching the expected level and 7% GD, to 93% expected and 43% GD. They are very tricky, but the children aim to beat their previous score. The quickest time to get all correct currently stands at 5 minutes 37 seconds.
Arithmetic SATS Pack

Arithmetic SATS Pack

2 Resources
These two resources have helped me to achieve fantastic results in maths. As a school we have gone from achieving 49% expected (and 7% GD), to 93% expected (and 43% GD). Used correctly, these resources will help children to become fluent and proficient calculators - I’ve found this invaluable to then tackling the reasoning and problem solving questions.
Arithmetic tests Year 6 11 tests

Arithmetic tests Year 6 11 tests

(0)
Year 6 Arithmetic Tests designed to support year 6 teachers and children in the run up to SATs tests. They have been based on the previous three government tests, and get progressively more difficult as they are used through the year. Each strand of arithmetic is included (four operations, fractions, decimals, percentages) I have used these effectively over the past 2 years as a year 6 teacher. When I started in year 6, we had 49% achieve the expected level. This year we had 93% with 43% achieving GD. This plays a huge part in achieving such results.
Maths Marking Staff Meeting

Maths Marking Staff Meeting

(0)
Maths staff meeting focused on effective marking, variation, problem solving and resources. This is a meeting where staff must play an active part - marking work collaboratively, then sharing how they would have done this. I had found that as a staff we were not always effective in our feedback, and that we weren’t always stretching and challenging, or addressing misconceptions. Following this staff meeting, and working with individual teachers, our feedback has considerably improved, and the outcomes have done the same.

It has planning documents, examples and other useful resources. This is a writing piece that I have done previously and got fantastic outcomes from. We will be using this text in English when our topic is Islamic Civilisation.
