This resource can be used during a social communication skills session, managing emotions session and/or a session on positive coping skills. Using the 5-point scale and letting the student fill in the worksheet will help both yourself as a staff member and your student in understanding what happens when they become distressed.

Mental health first aid kit work sheets. Students can use these to identify positive coping skills for sensory difficulties and emotional issues. Examples of what to put in the ‘first aid kit’ could include wearing ear defenders, eating regularly and having non-verbal communication aids on hand for when anxiety peaks. This exercise can also provide an opportunity to identify ways of coping with anxiety, stress and depression. All resources can be adapted and used with different students.
