Introduction to the Context of Charles Dickens - Victorian Era

This is a 4 lesson set of work which explores - in detail - the life and times of Charles Dickens, including Charles Dickens life himself, an exploration of the workhouses, childhood, schools and Victorian London. The final lesson then helps students to design a soundscape in which they compare the sound of modern London to Victorian London - beginning to think about using comparison skills for the GCSE style questions.

Blessing by Imitaz Dharker - Culture Poems - Unseen Poetry Lesson - Language Analysis

(0)
This is a full lesson on Blessing by Imitaz Dhaker originally from the Poems from Different Cultures cluster. This poem can be used in isolation to teach poetry skills, or as an unseen poem or can be used as part of a bundle for a poetry unit on Different Cultures (see my other resources for more!). Links nicely to the unseen poetry section for AQA literature paper 2. The lesson was used on an interview wherein I got the job - so has stood its test! It includes language analysis and context on Dhaker, as well as exploration of the meaning of a blessing - it leads into extended analysis and eventually peer assessment.

This is an 8 lesson mini scheme of work on The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. It includes speaking, writing and reading skills leading up to a monologue assessment. The scheme includes peer assessment opportunities, a dramatic performance, character exploration, comprehension skills and links to youtube videos for tasks. I have also included the worksheets which match with the scheme. This is a great scheme which I have had much success with before. It would work well with the Ballad of Charlotte Dymond (see my other resources!). If you would like to try before you buy this scheme I have uploaded a one lesson taster. 2 lessons on exploring the poem London by William Blake. The lesson culminates in students writing an analysis paragraph about their impressions of London. There is also a focus on vocabulary used in the poem and students identifying language features in the poem to comment on. This poem links exceptionally well with my other resource on the context on of William Blake.
