This resource includes an introduction to William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. It has 7 lessons including the opening of the play, act 1 scene 1 and act 1, scene 2, a lesson on the plot and characters of the play as well as contextual information and explorations of the characters of Prospero and Caliban. Complete lessons include resources and diffentiation.

2 lessons on exploring the poem London by William Blake. The lesson culminates in students writing an analysis paragraph about their impressions of London. There is also a focus on vocabulary used in the poem and students identifying language features in the poem to comment on. This poem links exceptionally well with my other resource on the context on of William Blake.

This is a 4 lesson set of work which explores - in detail - the life and times of Charles Dickens, including Charles Dickens life himself, an exploration of the workhouses, childhood, schools and Victorian London. The final lesson then helps students to design a soundscape in which they compare the sound of modern London to Victorian London - beginning to think about using comparison skills for the GCSE style questions.

A series of 8 lessons focused on comprehension of an extract from Chapter 6 of Call of the Wild by Jack London. The lessons focus on exploring the life and times of Jack London, reading and exploring the extract from Chapter 6 and culminate in an exploration of tension in the extract before an extended answer to ‘how does Jack London create tension in this extract?’. Complete with peer extract and differentiation as well as including the extract.

This is a 5 mini lesson scheme on Edgar Allan Poe’s The Black Cat. It includes a focus on comprehension of the key events, as well as building vocabulary and exploring how tension is built through the story. This pack also includes a copy of the original story (not my copy) and a simplified, differentiation copy which I have created. There is also a reading assessment included in the pack, focused on Paper 1 reading and analysis skills. This lesson can be used in conjunction with the lessons on ‘introduction to gothic conventions’ and ‘context of Edgar Allan Poe’.

This is a stand alone lesson introduction gothic conventions - this could easily be stretched over several lessons and finishes with the opportunity to use the knowledge of gothic conventions to write the opening to a gothic story, focusing on description.
