Pupils are also asked to write a political speech as a response to a national catastrophe, ensuring that they follow a specific structure and include elements discussed in lessons. Pupils must also complete an evaluation of their own work.

The Handmaid's Tale - Introduction lesson

Powerpoint with introductory lesson on "The Handmaid's Tale", by Margaret Atwood. Pupils discuss the topic "A Perfect World" before learning about Utopias, like Plato's "The Republic" and its organisation. PPT includes contextual information about Atwood's inspiration for the novel. Pupils to read and discuss chapter 1 of the novel, find quotes relevant to key issues raised by the text and plan an essay on the contrasting times presented in this section of the novel.
