Lesson that follows on from a previous lesson that introduces the ideas of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and builds on this with examples of the metals and the joining and treatment methods.
Two activities, one is a card matching activity while the other is an information gathering activity which leads to group discussions about the learning.
Starter and plenary on the presentation.

This is a series of resources for students to work through in order to complete the BTEC Engineering Tech Award Unit 2 Learning Aim A Module.
The download contains a booklet that students work through and research on the internet to complete. 3 Lessons which set up the module, the research tasks and writing the report. A help sheet for the report and pictures for the product.
This is based on the exemplar work that was sent out by the exam board. There are only 3 powerpoints but the lesson 2 powerpoint can be adapted to each of the research tasks. This download should cover about 30 hours when all put together.
2 different resources that can be used for lessons that need to be covered last minute.
A lesson based on plastics knowledge and a lesson to teach product analysis skills.
Have used successfully for a few years, printed out and laminated and left in a draw for when a lesson needs last minute cover. Can be used by any specialism teacher and students can work in books or on paper.
Based on a hierarchy system that differentiates the outcomes from a flash task, to a hulk task and finally an incredible task for high ability students.
3 powerpoints for a quick metal project on making a keyring from a piece of mild steel.
Lots of pictures to explain and all the steps are laid out in each of the presentations. Includes starters and plenaries.

Help sheet which shows in pictures and explains in writing the stages of using the nutritional analyser on the Food A Fact Of Life Website.
Great resource for students to refer to and encourage independent work. Great for cover lessons and less confident users of the website to quickly be able to pick up the analyser.
Starter or Plenary worksheet that highlights a number of products that have either good or bad points around Social, Moral and Environmental Issues. Excellent conversation starter for the topic and lays the foundations for the topic in the lesson.
A booklet based around different measurements and units commonly found in DT but can be used in maths or other areas around the school. (originally a booklet used for students in isolation)
Has measurement conversions, measuring and marking up parts, perimeter and area and fractions of measurements.
This is a dimensioned drawing for a small ‘torch’ that can be made using a lathe, milling machine and drilling machine to give students basic machine skills and introduce them to basic functions of each machine and also how to machine metal.
This is a resource for the Pearson BTEC Tech Award in Engineering Component 1A. This is the research of different engineered products and the companies that come together to engineer them.
This is a pack of resources around the write up of the report.
There is a presentation to aid writing up the report and suggest certain companies that can be used around 4 different products, Drone, Motorcycle, Pedal Bike and Car. These have been vetted and researched to make sure all the information is available on the companies websites.
There is a write up sheet for research and completed sheets around each company to help the completion of these.
There is also an example report which uses different engineering sectors than the ones used by the students and has two made up companies so it cannot be copied but gives students an idea of higher expectations.
There is also a help sheet which breaks down the report into manageable parts and explains what to include.
Dimensioned drawing for a stationery holder with instructions of how to make all the parts.
This is a metal project using flat steel bars and box section as an introduction to some basic metal working.
In this pack are all the write up resources for Component 2B for the Pearson BTEC Tech Award in Engineering Level 1/2.
This is based off the example work and uses the same cheap multi tool which is available cheaply from different websites.
This includes a presentation with instructions on and the tasks broken down.
A help sheet with the facts about the components used and help in writing the spec. There are worksheets for the observations in the photos. A reassembly guide for the multi tool. There is also a blank workbook to complete the work on paper.
Mock Exam paper for the Pearson Engineering Tech Award Component 3 Part 2 Responding to an Engineering brief.
This is a mock exam made by myself based around a cable holder and a question for the analysis of data part.
This was really useful in helping my students prepare for the exam last year.
Mock Exam paper for the Pearson Engineering Tech Award Component 3 Part 2 Responding to an Engineering brief.
This is a mock exam made by myself based around a door handle and a question for the analysis of data part.
This was really useful in helping my students prepare for the exam last year.

This is a mock exam made by myself based around a tool stand and a question for the analysis of data part.
This was really useful in helping my students prepare for the exam last year.
This is a mini project which looks at all the aspects of the design process over a two lessons.
There are product sheets for 6 different toys and a worksheet for analysing these products, writing a specification, design ideas and an evaluation.
The presentation goes through each stage of the process and aids the teacher and students to complete the lessons to a high outcome with expectations and tasks clearly laid out.
This is a lesson about materials and what they are used for.
The lesson looks at different metals, woods and plastics. Students recognise different properties for materials using the help sheets provided and link these to the example products given.
Starter sheet that asks students to work out and explain the dimensions on a given drawing.
Progressively harder questions to provide some differentiation.
Simple explanation sheet for the 6R's. Good for use in lessons to aid students in the subject, uses questions that students can ask about products to help analyse them or make their designs better.
