Ionic Jig saw

(1)
This activity develops students understanding of balancing charges in ionic salts. The students print out the activity, cut out the shapes and the recombine to determine the formulae of different ionic salts by balancing charge and making sure jigsaw is correct. Designed for KS3 and KS4 Science.
Dichotomous Keys and classification

Dichotomous Keys and classification

(0)
The presentation and associated activities are designed to introduce the classification of living things and also so we as scientists classify organisms using keys. Designed as an introduction for juniors the presentation included a series of activities which can be done individually or in groups.
Ohmic and Non-ohmic resistors

Ohmic and Non-ohmic resistors

(0)
This lesson is in the form of a powerpoint presentation for senior physics with short student tasks. In the presentation students will be able to Determine the difference between ohmic and non/ohmic conductors and Describe the effect of temperature on resistance.
Rates of Reaction

Rates of Reaction

(0)
This activity is divided into 4 parts each activity involved one of the components of rates of reactions - size, concentration, temperature and catalysts. The activity involves graphing data and then explaining the plot using rates of reaction theory. Students graph data and then apply this information to collision theory to explain observed data. The activity also includes hint sheets to assist students.
Fossil Fuel Misconceptions
doctorharvesdoctorharves

Fossil Fuel Misconceptions

(0)
This activity is designed to help identify what students already know about fossil fuels. Unless pre-existing ideas are identified and properly addressed, new knowledge may not be incorporated correctly. Three common misconceptions are identified that can be used to form the basis of a classroom discussion. Alternatively a short multi-choice survey can be used to determine the underlying knowledge students have.
Rates of reactions exercises
doctorharvesdoctorharves

Rates of reactions exercises

(0)
This resource is designed to practise graphing skills and data analysis around chemistry rates of reactions. Also designed to develop student understanding of results obtained using collision theory. The exercise consists of activities where students develop understanding of the 4 different ways to change rates of reaction - concentration, temperature, catalysts and surface area.
Amylase experiment
doctorharvesdoctorharves

Amylase experiment

(0)
This is an experiment designed to test the effect of temperature on enzyme activity. The experiment is designed to link with the IGCSE Biology course. The activity also includes plotting of experimental results and questions designed to test understanding of enzyme activity.
Electric Fields
doctorharvesdoctorharves

Electric Fields

(0)
This lesson is in the form of a powerpoint presentation for senior physics with short student tasks. In the presentation students will be able to describe the operation on the Van Der Graff Generator and how electrical fields are generated.
Magnetism and electromagnetism
doctorharvesdoctorharves

Magnetism and electromagnetism

(0)
A senior physics lesson in the form of a power point explaining the concepts around magnetism and the link to electromagnetism. The lesson also includes student tasks to test understanding of the lesson.
Food chains
doctorharvesdoctorharves

Food chains

(0)
Food chain exercise on food chains including class exercises and quizzes to test learning. The activity is in the form of a power point presentation that outlines key vocabulary e.g. predator/prey and then tests understanding of these concepts. Designed for junior science.
Slinkies and waves activity
doctorharvesdoctorharves

Slinkies and waves activity

(0)
Activity idea In this activity, students model how sound travels by sending waves along two stretched plastic slinkies tied together. By the end of this activity, students should be able to: • understand that sound is a longitudinal wave where particles in the medium vibrate back and forth along the same direction as the wave travels • see that a wave travels along as a series of compressions and expansions in the medium.
Global Warming
doctorharvesdoctorharves

Global Warming

(0)
Designed to worked over for 3 lessons. The presentation and video are designed to introduce the concept of global warming, the causes and possible solutions and the evidence underlying the development of the theory of human involvement in global warming. The presentation also includes an activity to assess student understanding of the science. Primarily aimed at junior science, the video reinforces the presentation but illustrating the effects of global warming,.
Aseptic plating on agar
doctorharvesdoctorharves

Aseptic plating on agar

(0)
This is an activity the students plate aseptically onto agar plates and then record their observations. This is based around microbiology. Designed for KS3 science of KS4 biology.
Voltage
doctorharvesdoctorharves

Voltage

(0)
In this senior physics lesson in the form of a powerpoint presentation incorporating short student tasks, students will be able to Explain the term ‘Potential Difference.’ and Explain how potential difference behaves in series and parallel circuits.
Resistance
doctorharvesdoctorharves

Resistance

(0)
This senior physics lesson is in the form of a powerpoint presentation with small student tasks. The students should be able to Identify that an increase in resistance will reduce the electrical current, Explain how the resistance of LDRs and thermistors change with light intensity and temperature., Calculate resistance in parallel and series circuits and Determine Ohm’s Law.
SUVAT Equation practise tasks
doctorharvesdoctorharves

SUVAT Equation practise tasks

(0)
This resource is in the form of a powerpoint which works through various problems involving applying the SUVAT equations. Designed with AS physics in mind the tasks are designed for the class to work through each problem.
Chemical energetics - bond energies
doctorharvesdoctorharves

Chemical energetics - bond energies

(0)
This lesson incorporates a presentation describing what bond energies are and using these values to calculate reaction energy changes. The values of these energy changes is then discussed in terms of exothermic and endothermic reactions. The lesson also includes student activities to test understanding. Designed for KS4 and 5 Chemistry.
