Multiplication Made Easy: Math Fact Practice

This workbook includes 110 pages of drills, interactive notebook pages ideas and more. Ask any teacher above the 4th grade what the one thing is students must know to be successful in math and the answer will be most likely be the same: math fact fluency. The purpose of the lessons in Multiplication Made Easy is twofold: to help students learn multiplication facts accurately and to help students learn facts with automaticity. At the first level, students can produce math facts when they have time to think and concentrate. The second level allows them to simply produce facts – automatically -- with both speed and accuracy. Some people say they simply can’t learn math facts – they have tried and they can’t; however, if one can learn to sing the Happy Birthday song, or Row, Row, Row Your Boat or any other song and can recall it instantaneously when needed – then that same person can indeed learn their math facts. Fluency practice helps with fact development and having the ability to automatically regurgitate math facts paves the way for future math success. This can be achieved by using the lessons in Multiplication Made Easy to chunk away at math fact mastery. Once you and your child feel he or she is proficient with chunking pages move to on to the Multiplication in a Minute lessons and math fact fluency will be attained!

Math Literacy and the Common Core: Writing Your Way to Understanding Common Core Concepts 3rd and

(0)
Math Literacy and the Common Core is intended to help educators understand the link between literacy skills and learning math concepts. It addresses the misconception that math learning process is a journey resting on the shoulders of students and that it is up to students to determine whether or not math will be mastered. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. An abundance of research supports the assertion that teachers should be shouldering most of the math learning responsibility. Thus, we must recognize…it is teachers who are responsible for student learning as well as for student success in mastering the standards. This book is intended to be a roadmap for teachers to that end. It is a starting point for teachers to collaborate within their own geographic areas and determine authentic standards-based, hands-on lessons that will engage each set of students and move them toward math mastery. This collaboration, coupled with in-depth lesson study, is a key component for student learning. Teachers collaborating and disaggregating lessons are keys to unlocking the doors to student mastery. Unfortunately, not enough emphasis is usually put on these keys. If our math programs are ever to be truly world class – this has to change. The bottom line: the majority of students are not going to understand math until we, as teachers, learn to teach math differently. Let Math Literacy and the Common Core be your starting point to those ends. Intended to be a workbook. (0)
This NGSS Pancake unit contains three lab projects – for singles, pairs or groups – to be conducted over two days. The labs contain student template pages and are differentiated for different aptitude level. This unit also contains a teaching PowerPoint on the Structure and Properties of Matter. Disciplinary Core Ideas PS1.A: Structure and Properties of Matter Different kinds of matter exist and many of them can be either solid or liquid, depending on temperature. Matter can be described and classified by its observable properties. (2-PS1-1) • Pancake ingredients classified into solid or liquid. PS1.B: Chemical Reactions Heating or cooling a substance may cause changes that can be observed. Sometimes these changes are reversible, and sometimes they are not. (2-PS1-4) • Heating the liquid batter turns it into a solid. Students will form a hypothesis as to whether or not this solid will turn back into a liquid and test their hypothesis. Students will explain their experiments.
