I use this template when playing the game 'What’s In The Box?' Place pictures of Phase 2 / 3 / 5 words in a box - children choose out a picture at random and write down what they have found on this template.

This comprehension book includes 10 short and simple stories for those beginning to start guided reading / comprehension work. These have been used with Year 1 children but could also be used by high ability Reception / low ability Year 2 children. Each story has 4 / 5 simple questions with answers to retrieve from the text. Could be completed independently or with adult support if needed. Great as a starting point in guided reading sessions.

Split digraph recap worksheets. To be used after the teaching of each split digraph: a-e e-e i-e o-e u-e The worksheets contain a range of reading activities, practice adding sound buttons, practice reading real and alien words, practice identifying split digraphs. 2 copies of each worksheet included - one with sound buttons and one without so that your own version can be added.

Sound family spinners. Laminate the resources and attach the spinner with a split pin. Children can then spin the arrow and write down the object it lands on. There are two versions included - one with the digraphs on to help children spell the word using the correct digraph and one without the sounds on to add more challenge. Phase 3 tricky word posters. Tricky words depicted on a high five hand. Stick the posters around your classroom / school / home and every time the child walks past get them to high five and say it. Great practice for tricky word recognition.
