We at Empathy Week have created this ‘Introduction to Empathy’ assembly for all school ages to kick start students thinking around what empathy actually is and framed around the question - ‘How would you change the world?’. Empathy Week uses the power of film to develop the skill of empathy and this assembly is no different. Previously unseen footage from Empathy Week 2021 is included and features Habib, an Afghan refugee who claimed asylum in the UK - allowing students to see and hear a unique perspective on life. **How to use this resource? ** Download and use within form time or as a year group assembly and get your students to start thinking about developing this skill crucial for personal wellbeing and professional development at school. Empathy is the key to a world that enables wellbeing, inclusion, and collective success. With school absences and mental health issues rising amongst young people, we believe in developing this crucial leadership skill early and building the #EmpathyGeneration. In this pack, we introduce you to Empathy Week. An annual festival of films, resources & events that develops the skill of empathy in students aged 5–18. Taking place 26th February – 1st March, our 2024 festival is FREE for all schools. Empathy Week is building the ‘Empathy Generation’. A global schools programme using the power of film to develop the skills of empathy and leadership in every student. Each year we produce 5 powerful films paired with fully differentiated and flexible lesson resources these vital social, emotional and life skills. As a whole-school approach, every student has the opportunity and is given the agency to change their world. Having engaged 100,000 students in just two years and across 6 continents and 40+ countries - this is the programme that can create a lasting effect on your students and teachers of your school. Empathy Week works with experienced empathy psychologists and scientists as well as a team that has experience inside the classroom and out. Allowing us to create a framework within the lessons that truly develops the skill of empathy. After the week students have the option to take part in a 5-6 week Empathy Action Project where they can work to tackle social issues on a local or global basis. The best projects can be submitted to be awarded the Global Empathy Award which takes place in June 2022 - confirmed judges for this event include - Gavin Dykes - Director World Education Forum and Ger Graus, Global Education Director for Kidzania. In 2022 Empathy Week is focusing on the theme of ‘Passion and Purpose’ with 5 amazing humans and their stories which touch on social themes that include but are not limited to bullying, mental health, Downs Syndrome, chasing your dream, immigration, self-belief, resilience, homelessness, being different, diversity, leadership, being a role model and more.
