Year 3 - Fast 4 Maths Lesson Starters - Set 1 - 55 slides- PowerPoint

(1)
55 slides (11 weeks) of Year 3 maths lesson starters on PowerPoint. Perfect for daily retrieval practice, ‘do now’ or revision. 4 questions per slide, with additional challenges. Each slide includes 4 questions mainly covering place value skills and the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). After Week 7 slides also include an open ended challenge. Every slide is has a pastel background, uses OpenDyslexic font and also links to a timer. Students can complete the Fast 4 on a mini whiteboard or in their books. This set includes mainly fluency questions. Creating retrieval practice lesson starter slides is one of my least favorite things to do - yes it’s easy, but it’s so tedious! So I collected all my Fast 4 slides together in one easy place so I can adapt and reuse instead of starting from scratch every time. Simply copy and paste the slide and tweak as needed.

Year 3 Narrative Writing Mini-Unit - Teleportation Theme!

This 2 week mini-unit has been a hit every time I’ve taught it! This unit is aimed at Year 3 students, and can be adapted to suit the needs of your class. I have left everything fully editable as you need to adapt it to your own students but please share within the license boundaries of your purchase. The unit takes 10 days (2 weeks of English lessons of approximately 45-60 minutes). Week 1 covers ‘features of a narrative’, ‘comprehension’, ‘skill practice’ and ‘planning’. Week 2 is more open ended to allow you to follow the writing and editing expectations of your school. Week 1 could also be adapted for whole-class guided reading if appropriate. The unit covers: • Beginning, middle and end using the story mountain framework to extend this into introduction, build up, climax, resolution, conclusion • Using quotation marks/inverted commas for speech (this does not explicitly teach use of commas within quotation marks as I build this in later in the year, but you could easily add this in) • Character and setting recap • Brief exposure to ‘Rule of 3’ descriptions

Maths talk image prompts - lesson starter multipack - 57 slides - 2 file types

Enjoy this FREE pack of images to use as prompts for math talk. I use these as lesson starters to to make connections between learning, but they also work well as plenaries or challenges for children who finish early. Consider asking questions such as: “What maths can you see?” “What do you notice?” “What trick is this picture playing?” This is a great resource to promote oracy and support students who are English language learners. Can be used across KS1 and KS2. Slides are tagged with a few suggestions of relevant maths units. None of the images are my own, hence this being a free resource. I struggled to find these types of images to share with students and wanted to have them all in one place. Images sourced from a wide range of sources, including free WRM materials, Diagnostic Questions and Power Maths. I was not able to trace the origins of most images and can remove them if needed. This file contains both a SmartNotebook file and a PowerPoint file

Then we sat the mouse on different items in the classroom before filling out this sheet to practice spelling CVC words. PDF includes a link to an editable template on canva so you can make your own!

FREE Individual student reward coupons

20 reward coupons, including 2 blank ones to write your own! Use these coupons to support behaviour management in your classroom. They could be given as a birthday treat, to your Star of the Week, or to children who have achieved a learning/behaviour target. I even stapled 5 together and gave them out as Christmas gifts! Best of all, they are no cost/low effort for you in the classroom! If you’re worried about them getting lost/stolen you can write student’s names on the back (I have used the same laminated set for 3+ years and use a whiteboard pen for this purpose). I also remind children that if they are lost they cannot be replaced. The license for this resource is completely open! So if you want to edit them just upload the PDF to Canva!
