A worksheet where the pupils must describe, using the evidence, whether they think an alien jelly is alive. The evidence is from a fictional diary kept by Astronauts visiting the planet Taranes. Aimed at Year 7 pupils who are studying the 7 characteristics of living organisms, MRS GREN. The work sheet is one page for ease of printing but can also be displayed via projector.
A booklet for Wellbeing and mental health interventions. The booklet has pages “I am Kind because…” “I am Polite because…” “I am a Good friend because…” “I am Generous because…” “I am Amazing because…” “I am Helpful because…” “The Best Thing about Me is…” Designed to be talked about in an intervention to help improve self esteem and confidence. The booklet is printed on A4 paper to be folded into an A2 booklet.
This is a space exploration activity. The pupils are presented with some short biographies of potential Astronauts. They have to choose 6 for the mission. They work in groups and discuss the reasons for and against their selections. The pupils then fill in a table with their choices and their reasons for and against. It is a good way of emphasising that the journey to Mars is long so the Astronauts have to get along together and they have to be self sufficient. I have used it for a range of year groups from Year 7 to Year 11.
A Classroom activity that can be done with the pupils in groups or individually. The pupils are given a story of a walk through a piece of countryside. Various organisms like Dandelions, Rabbits, Buzzards and Foxes are mentioned. The pupils have to identify the PRODUCERS, the PRIMARY CONSUMERS and the SECONDARY CONSUMERS. They record the organisms in a table. Using the table they can now draw as many FOOD CHAINS as they can find. This lends itself to a discussion about whether some organisms are eaten by more than one consumer. This is a good introduction to FOOD WEBS. The final activity would be to create a FOOD WEB for the woodland. Ideal activity for any Year group from Y7 to Y11 Used as part of a Feeding Relationships topic.
This is a play to show how somethings are created in a short space of time and so would be considered to be renewable but fossil fuels like coal take hundreds of millions of years to form. It is a fun activity to do in class. I write the cast of characters on the board and the pupils volunteer to read the parts of the play. I provide copies for all the pupils and they have to read along with the characters. The pupils enjoy using different voices especially if you do the play twice with different pupils. Suitable for an energy resources topic covering non-renewable energy and fossil fuels. Particularly suitable for Year 6, Year 7 or Year 8.
