A KS3 History lesson that focuses on life in England during the time of the Anglo-Saxons. Students will investigate England pre-1066; looking at who ruled the country, how many people lived here, religion and how wealth was generated through trade. This lesson is a perfect start for students before looking at the chaotic events of 1066. There are a number of comprehension questions for students to answer at the end of the lesson.

Students will be given a variety of sources that show the character and life experiences of Adolf Hitler: childhood and school life in Austria, being a young man with artistic ambition in Vienna, soldier in the first world war and finally political activist and prisoner before his rise to fame. There are two checkpoints within the lesson where students’ comprehension is checked.

History lesson on how Ancient Rome was governed. Students are to recap on previous knowledge on how the Ancient Greeks governed themselves. Students will then look at the various stages of Rome and how each stage was ruled differently and by different people. Students will then look, specifically, at the Senate with a two-sided information sheet to be printed and a questions sheet to be given to the students to direct them. An extension task is given to students to extend learning. Students will then look at the similarities and differences between the House of Commons (and MPs) today and compare it to the Roman Senate.

I would aim to teach this lesson across two hours, allowing students to answer the questions carefully. The resource is self-contained so can be set as online independent work.

A KS3 History lesson on evacuation during the Second World War. This lesson can be broken into two one-hour lessons. The first looks at the reasons for evacuation looking at first hand accounts of the process. The second looks at the experiences during evacuation, again looking at sources. Questions are asked throughout the lesson to check for understanding and develop source analysis.

A class discussion on tolerance present within your classroom is presented as a plenary at the end of the lesson.
