A KS4 AQA History lesson on the failure of the war plans at the start of the First World War. Students will look at the early stages of the Schlieffen Plan which leads to the Battle of the Marne. Students will look at Belgian resistance here with a source analysis task. Students will then move on towards the origins of trench warfare with the race to the sea before looking at Russian involvement on Germany’s Eastern Front. This lesson ends with a source analysis question based on early Russian dominance against the Austro-Hungarians.
