My first role as a teacher was a sexual health tutor and then I went on to teaching functional skills and now I work as an English Additional Language Specialist. I also work as an advanced practitioner for using technology in teaching and can provide advice for these subjects.

Grammar for ESOL Learners A1 (beginner) Adjectives

This resource is a worksheet that cover specific grammar for learners of English who speak other languages proficiency level A1. It covers grammar, reading and writing. You could adapt these resources to support speaking and listening by doing peer work or work in the classroom, with parents or children. They are aimed at adults but can be used for teenagers and children. These resources are specifically designed so learners can work independently, or at home. You can use them in print or interactive, although some writing is involved. However, they can also be used in class. Each resource contains a starter, explanations, tasks and a final assessment quiz to take online. Tasks: Wellbeing activity Explanation of the topic Introduction task Main task - multiple choice, then writing task (tasks get harder) Fun assessment task to compete with others around the globe! I was a teacher of Functional Skills for many years and know that grammar can be a big problem for the writing and speaking exams for learners with English as an additional language. I then worked teaching English as a second language in functional skills, and in international schools and Cambridge English. Therefore I have a good understanding of English grammar and how to teach it effectively. I am also an EdTech specialist with a specialism in blended learning. I have good knowledge of graphic design and accessibility and methods of pedagogical learning.

Functional Skills English Exam Revision Reading and Writing Levels 1 and 2

A set of revision booklets for Functional Skills English Level 1 and 2, Reading and Writing. These have not been updated for a while so some of the areas of the curriculum may not be relevant but on the whole they will provide the revision needed to pass functional skills English. Students like to have a set of resources to revise for the exam and these provide this. These booklets were originally based on the City and Guilds exam but can also be used for Edexcel and other awarding bodies for functional skills. They may also be useful for basic skills for learners who are having to do GCSE. The booklets are for revision for the exam and are not full lessons for each subject, merely to remind and advise learners. These booklets were vital for my students and have been used by other colleagues. The resources state The Manchester College as that is where I worked, but they were created completely by myself.
