A series of lessons based on building a description of a city and/or countryside setting in WW2. The descriptions could be used as openers in a story based around evacuees who were sent to live in a rural location. This is a tried and tested classroom resource. Pupils should collect ideas from the pictures provided and use the model text to write an effective description. A vocabulary grid and a copy of the success criteria for writing an effective description is also included. This is an opportunity to introduce an engaging unit of work based on writing the biography of a significant children's author. This resource is aimed at upper KS2 pupils (Years 5&6) but could also be used with years 7&8. There are opportunities for focused research, proof reading, writing in chronological order and producing a final piece of biographical writing. This resource also includes a highly stimulating initial PowerPoint presentation, suggestions for success criteria, a national reading test style comprehension and a KWL grid. This resource will take several weeks to complete and all materials can be modified to suit your needs.
