Twenty years as Spanish and French teacher, specialist in Latin American culture, particularly film and Literature. My resources are very creative and students find themselves developing curiosity about the culture as well as being challenged to take risks with the language. They are engaging for the teacher too and they will inject some fun in to your lessons if like me you like to be creative and encourage your students not to play it safe. They do link to assessment requirements too.

Developed from Edexcel rojo activity on Pans Lab Reading, adapting texts and then writing, watching extracts of the film and commenting. Could be a build up to an assessed piece of writing or speaking Historia oficial is a Higher reading activity

Boys really loved the Parcour lesson and I have never got so much speaking done with a Y8 class jsut by talking about extreme sports instead of conventional sports. Show them the clip at the start of Casino Royale before doing either of the reading tasks and you will be very popular too. first reading task is in English-team speed reading challenge then you can opt to do the one in French as well or instead.

PPt will need adapting by you as goes with my particular lesson but could give you some ideas. Tick or fix for example links to a previous lesson M. Vraiment sportif-idea is that answers are printed on to card with questions for AFL on the other side- reading task differentiated as are questions for reflection and the success criteria for the writing task

As the topic of where you live can be a bit boring we get our students to do presentations on a Latin American capital city-great practice for orals and good cultural input. In fact it could become a CA if you wanted it to. In the build up we use some or all of these resources. When they are doing the presentations the rest of the class have to fill in a listening grid, can be devised by students.

Expressing opinions about food with cultural twist

With the idea of interesting students in the culture behind the language this is expressing opinions about food whilst learning about food from Spain and Latin America. It gives a great opportunity for students to get their tongues round some great words and they will often enjoy giving opinions about foods they have never tried. It brings out and challenges their prejudices. Key focus on speaking and does challenge students on uses of gustar and other verbs for likes/dislikes + adjectival agreement- it does need differentiating.

KS4 French - The world without technology

Way to get students to talk about how they use technology. I took the 2 questions about dumping on Facebook and would you ban mobiles in school and got them to do a speed date around the room to practise asking and answering then we did a straw poll to see who would really dump a boy or girlfriend on face book and they loved it. This was follow up to doing Higher listening practise Edexcel 2011/2012 one on use of mobiles in class 2012 and one on using social networking sites 2011. Also nicked and adapted from a freebee from Mary Glasgow magazine about dumping on Facebook

Food and poetry designed for our Y7 who are doing food this term but could be adapted. Le petit nicholas- again Y7 when doing school- followed by watching the excellent and funny film of le petit Nicholas that they loved because we'd looked at the story first I have added presentation for a teach meet -showing elements of the above but also ideas for using fairy stories- and source of material This is the year that will be doing literature at GCSE

adding challenge to adjectives of personality

They say they are making it harder to get those top grades so here is a way to make even teaching something reasonably straight forward like adjectives of personality a little more A*- or indeed 1 as it will be in a few years apparently.

all the Tenses and relationships/family/free time

Not fabulously original but I have been trying to drum tenses in to Y10 and thought some of these might be useful to share. The Imperfect ppt is based on my childhood so you might want to change the slides. Also I acknowledge that one of the reading tasks is not my own, so thank you to the person who shared it originally. I am building up to a first CA around relationships/family/free time hence the context for all the grammar tasks. I particularly wanted to get them mixing tenses, hence the mixing it up activities.

ID cards for mix and mingle

They speak for themselves really. I am having a set printed on card and laminated so I can use them for mix and mingle/ speed dating activities. You could use them for writing, for pair or small group info gap style activities as well. Of course they could also be used at start of a GCSE course and you can always add such things as profession, place live etc.

A way to get disaffected Y9 students through the last few weeks of term. Does not have to be done at the end of the year. You may well want to change bits to fit what you have done with your classes. Also the bit about Viva Argentina relates to current world cup and so will be out of date soon and is my wind up of the boys in one of my Y9 classes. Could be all in Spanish to make it more challenging and be used in KS4 or indeed KS5.

PPT is really to provoke/stimulate discussion- Articles are aimed at beginner Y12s. I have a group at the moment who are not very confident and so I tried to find relatively easy web-based articles- that would boost their confidence and also show them that talking fashion is quite fun because you can get away with Spanglish

Relationships and helping around the house

Not the most inspiring of topics. The grammar summary is aimed at my class in particular but you might find it useful and it is easy to adapt to a different context that might be more relevant. The quien manda is a reading but I need to re-add questions/tasks so will you. Cinderella brings together talking about relationships with imperfect and present tense and helping around the house.

Superheroes for comparison

We do a Super hero project in term 2 to get students describing what someone looks like, hence these resources are all about superheroes. Really works, especially with boys. it culminates with an assessment in which they describe a super hero and a villain of choice, can make up their own. Looks/personality/comparisons/personal info/likes and dislikes with nouns.

New GCSE and 'literature', we are doing education with Y7 so I have created this reading skills focussed ppt using extracts from les excuses de petit Nicolas Use of white boards and an element of competition stops it from being too teacher led and the great thing about Nicolas is if they like him he can come up again- we are doing les vacances with Y8 so we might add in a petit Nicolas on holiday extract
