Exam Question Practice - Inference A lesson on a word document on the theme of the attitudes towards drug use. Starter activity - students look at attitudes and decide if they are modern or 19th C. Task 2 - read the texts and state which one is 19th and which one is 21st and see if they can explain why. Task 3 - Students list the differences between the two in a Venn diagram Task 5 - students answer an exam style question following a basic writing frame, with a peer marking/self evaluation table at the end. Extension task - How this relates to question 4 paper 2 - students find the language techniques in the text and attempt to answer question 4 following the writing frame.

A functional skills lesson designed to meet the new spec for 2019 Edexcel functional skills, looks at basic punctuation, using quotes and layout features. Lesson designed to last approximately an hour and a half depending on the ability of the class. Inference and Emphasis

Speaking and listening exam preparation. Looks at mark scheme for both exam tasks to suit the new spec of the Edexcel functional skills lesson. New Year comprehension included for Functional Skills level 1 but can be adapted for Functional Skills Level 2 or GCSE English.

GCSE AQA Revision looking at questions 3, 4 and 5 for paper 1. AO4 Lesson objectives based on Blooms Taxonomy, extension activities and model answers included, can last between two hours to three depending on the ability of the class. Looks at Structural techniques, Language analysis and Creative writing.

A revision lesson going in depth in how to use context to add greater depth to an answer looks at question 3, 4 and 5 should take two hours. Is themed on the police and our rights as citizens, its a really nice lesson for discussions and for pushing students to get the higher grades. An activity book for students to practice the skills they need to pass the exam. Looks at identifying all the techniques language and structure for paper 1, looks at writing PEACE paragraphs, comparing texts and creative writing activities. I made this after teaching this course for three years upon getting students feedback on what they struggled on. Exam practice for Edexcel GCSE English language creative writing section. Focuses on the skills and the language/layout techniques students need to know. We look at GOMASSIVE techniques for language and we look into dialogue , narrative voice ect for structure. The text is ‘The Tell Tale Heart’ by Edgar Allen Poe, all other resources and tasks are editable. The lesson is scaffolded with quick tasks for students to develop their confidence before looking at the exam, Edexcel even have a full mock exam based on this extract should you wish students to attemot the full thing by themselves after having this. Lesson should take a little over two hours.

A lesson to prepare students for the reading exam of level 1 functional skills English and to prepare them to move up to GCSE. Can be used for any lesson where the inferring skill needs to be developed. Includes: A reading comprehension on a descriptive text. Vocab development. inferring from images and inferring from context to help students understand difficult language. All resources are editable, extension activities have been included to aid differentiation , lesson has been designed with lesson objectives using Bloom’s taxonomy. A lesson to suit Black History Month. The lesson is based on speech writing with a focus on Martin Luther King. Looks into DAFORREST techniques and King’s use of symbolism. Then goes into how to use verbs and adjectives to make the writing more powerful. Goes into detail on how to write speeches and looks into today’s modern problems around the globe so that students can choose a topic of their own to express their views on. The lesson should last around two hours, all resources are editable, can suit any lesson that needs to teach persuasive writing.

DAFORREST is an acronym for persuasive writing techniques. This is suitable for anyone who is doing GCSE English language as paper 2 is all about persuasive techniques, so the ability to write and analyse these techniques is a good fundamental skill. This is also important for those who do persuasive writing for IGCE and those who are studying level 2 functional skills.

A short powerpoint and worksheet on linking words and their usages, this can be used as homework as I’ve made a video going through this, or it can be adapted and used as part of a lesson. The worksheet has some questions on paragraphing (video to follow shortly) and all answers are included.
