Functional Skills English Reading and Writing EL3-L1 - Giving Directions

Functional Skills English reading and writing worksheet on Writing Directions, covering reading comprehension, planning and writing directions. Could also be used for cover lesson, a lesson or for a GCSE revision class. I successfully managed to zoom the map from A4 to A3 on our photocopier and share one between two in the class.

I have adapted this from an old Food Tech lesson I used to do, catering on a budget. This would also be good for Life skills. It is aimed at post 16 students but could be used for 14+ students. I have left it so you can alter prices and budgets. Prices are from Supermarket websites. The recipe book for the meals is included in 3 files that can be stapled together with your own cover.

Functional Skills English reading worksheet on following directions and marking a route on a map, covering reading comprehension, extracting information and following directions. I have also included an A3 version of the map. The answers to the on route questions are on the last page so remember not to print that out. Could also be used for cover lesson.

Functional Skills English EL2-3 - Writing- News Report

This worksheet is based around the new specification for English. It includes discussion, reading and writing a News Blog. The discussion aspect is done when talking about the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The extract comes from the book"Today Everything Changes" by Andy McNab. This is a short 105 page book about the authors early life. Could also be used with KS3. Would make a good cover lesson.

Original presentation was not mine. I added some links to videos to it and also did a less hard hitting (sanitised) version which has a Band of Brothers clip of the discovery of the concentration camps on it (9 minutes long). this is probably best used as part of a lesson or Tutor time.
